As for the removing the exhaust in any places it's just not possible. The Explorer will be strapped down to a dyno on all four corners so climbing in and out from underneath may be next to impossible.
As for the K&N tests, I have a panel replacement filter from K&N that we can use along with a SSD4U air intake. I also think Al has a few different designed air intakes too. If anyone wants to loan us a Pro-M or Granatelli for the test I'd be sure to take very good care of it and ensure that you get it back in the same shape it was sent.
As for fuel curves I don't have a problem giving these on the stock and minor bolt-on tests but when we do my programming I won't post my a/f numbers as they are part of my tuning. I know your going to have a feild day with me saying this Spindle but go ahead, my values are not lean or overly rich but right where they need to be for a SOHC to make the most power. This isn't where the base SCT file is so this is why I keep this information confidential. I've found these numbers through my years of experience with the 4.0 and dyno testing.
This is also backed up by the milage testing Al has done because if you go too much on either then milage is affected.
Doug, I have a small question. I see you are doing allot of testing on the 4.0 and this is just great. Allot of 4.0's out there. Have you already ran this testing on the 5.0 motor? Or do you already have the programs for them? Just curious....
1) How about removing the fan and clutch to see what gain can be had by going to an electric fan?
2) Stock airbox/paper filter vs K&N panel and modified airbox ( I removed the silly little silencer and drilled another 2"x4" hole on the fender side of my airbox)
3)Is it feesable to test different MAFs? I have a '97 Tbird and a popular swap is to go with a 2002 Mustang GT MAF for better air analasys and airflow. This does require a specific tune for the EEC though.
4) SCT tune, 180 stat, and 1 step colder plugs vs Stock?
5) Catbacks vs. stock?
6) SCT tune, intake, and catback together vs stock?

Al, I have a Mac Intake and a Pro-M MASS off of my 98 SOHC that I could lend for the cause if you need it. But the shipping costs would eat us up. Let me know if yall need it or anything. More than glad to help. It's all in the spare bedroom just looking pretty. All dressed up for a dance with no partner, LOL.

Well, I guess if we want realistic situations, can we put 2 women in the back with a jealous husband standing a 100 yards back with a gun pointed at the Explorer and then try it without them. My best guess is it runs a hell of allot faster with the 2 women in the back and the guy pointing a gun at it, ROFLMAO

Yes, I do 5.0 tuning right along with 4.0. I'm just known better for my 4.0 stuff because I've been doing it for so long. I can do any Ford vehicle from 95-up including the new CAN network Explorer's, F150's and 05' Mustangs.
As for the a/c thing, the A/C compressor is turned off above 50% throttle for a set amount of time on any Ford programming so it's not really on anyway. All dyno sampling runs are preformed at WOT.
