What year explorer has a stock 8" sub in the back? Will any of them fit in my 91 Eddie Bauer with the JBL premium to replace my blown 6.5 in the back?

thanx

dont know about year but all those boxes will fit in any X except for the really new ones

supposedly the 97 and prior have 6.5 inch subs. in 98 they upped the sub to an 8 inch. i just read bout this last nite. i think i found it on the Edmunds website. www.edmunds.com i think i was seeing how much my car has depreciated...

The 6.5" sub is really lame. Even the stock audio system could overpower it. I haven't heard the 8" subs, but if you're tight for space and $$$$, that might be the way to go if you can get a used one.

And 8inch sub will fit in your stock box. You just need to cut the hole a little bigger. Then surface mount the new sub on the box and replace the cover. It will look stock. I used a JL Audio 8inch in my 92 and it fit like a charm and sounds great for the money. Especially if you don't want to fill the cargo area with a box.

Hey, guys

My 98 has the 8" factory "Mach" sub. For a stock system, it's pretty good, but pretty much anything aftermarket makes it sound like a joke. I would say get yourself a decent 8" sub and a small amp that you can hide somewhere. Stiffen the factory enclosure with some fibreglass, and just cut the hole bigger.

Hey Zensius, so It was easy to do? I really wanna replace it with a good sub and maybe an aftermarket amp and if A 8 will fit, I'll do that. How did you cut the opening bigger? If you got any pictures or advise on doing it, that'd be great. Thanx

where is this stock subwoofer located? I've never heard it before and am wondering if i even have one(i think im supposed to).

if you had it it(doubtful if you havnt heard it) would be in the cargo area in the back in the right side if you are facing the front of the truck in the back right across from werre the jack is stored.
