whats better for SAS....AWD x-fer case or selectable 2wd-4wd?

I have been tossing around the idea of getting an explorer and putting a solid dana 44 in the front. I would rather have a selectable transfer case that has 2wd instead of the awd transfer case. My question is how important is it to have the 2wd-4wd selectable? Also was that available on the v8?, and any particular years? thanks

Welcome. I would convert it to 4wd and then do the sas.


No 5.0 V8 came with a selectable case. A lot of guys are doing this though:
