Hey all,
I have a question about my 4.0 SOHC '03 X....I am still searching for reasoning why my X has hardly no power....my 3.0 ranger pulls trailers better than my X...anyways...while gazing under the hood a found a plastic/foam bag resting between my intake manifold...???? anyone know if this is factory..or what??

thanks

I'm guessing that it shouldn't be there.

Looked and I have one there, it looks like some kind of insulating pad? (it sits in the center between the heads)

I was hoping it was some "Horsepower drainer plug-foam thingie"....all I had to do was pull it out.(which i did)...and voila! extreme Xplorer power!...too bad...thx JD

Kind of like "Steak pillows"

Or at least that's what my kid calls them- the absorbers under the meat in the foam packaging... LOL!

^^^I like that, very creative. I never thought of them that way. LOL

my guess is they act as insulation to keep engine heat away from the incoming air in the intake manifolf

similiar to the phenolic carb spacers back in the day which raised the carburator off the top of the engine way from the heat. the spacer did not conduct heat as well as the metal intake

I think its to keep the heat away from the intake mani......just my .02
