Whats wrong ??

98 explorer sport, it started with i m driving and when i let off the gas it would rev up the i would have to press on the gas for the Tran to reengage.with a thump, now it will not engage , i have to turn off the truck,if not as i put it in park a grinding sound will happen, all gears. if i put it in low 4x4 it will work to get home that's as far as i dare to drive it. Amoco said transfer case for 2000, for some reason it stays in neutral????? HELP!!!

Sound like all the symptoms of a bad T-case. Find someplace else, I would never even dream of spending $2000 on a T-case, unless it was an Atlas.

Get a used transfer case and have a reputable shop put it in. AAMCO seems to charge to much compared to good mom and pop outfits.

Sorry forget to mention, the grinding ,meshing, sounds comes from the front... between driver and passenger seat..
