I need to get new wheel ball bearings for my ride and I plan on having my dad do the work for me since he has worked on cars forever now. My question is, do any of you have a parts # for the bearings I would need for a '99 Sport 4wd? Do I need to buy the whole wheel hub assembly? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

You have to buy a complete hub assembly. Spend the $150-180 for a Timken or BCA hub. Those cheap china no name ones on Ebay are junk. I know first hand.

Just a follow up question, when I had the car serviced and all the problems were found the dealer emailed me a copy of the performance checklist showing what failed and what needed work. This is what was listed for the bearing: "Inspect wheel bearings for noise and play Found left front wheel bearing to be noisy/worn/loose" How in the world do I know if its the upper or lower? Aren't there two different wheel ball bearings? At least thats the impression I got from seeing the 2 stickies for bearing replacements.

Upper & lower would be BALL JOINTS. There is not an upper & lower bearing.

The only difference is two wheel drive Explorers use traditional tapered roller bearings in which case you would have an inner & outer bearing & inner & outer race.

Ok so according to the vehicle maitanence sheet, the: "Inspect wheel bearings for noise and play Found left front wheel bearing to be noisy/worn/loose" is in fact the hub assembly and I should spend the $$$ and go with a BCA or Timken one? Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Timken. Never used the bca, but you can Not go wrong w/timken. Long lasting, great quality for the $.

And be careful to tighten the axle or spindle nut properly, you can ruin a good bearing by over or under tightening it.

Go to the vendor section and go to Rock Auto. You can get the timken from them for the price of an aftermarket at a parts store. I just got one for 117 if I recall.
