I'm getting a set of 3/8" aluminum spacers to use with 15X8" rims with 4" backspacing. I'll still have adequate thread contact on the nut/lug, but I'm wondering if the rim, being 'shimmed' out, will cause extra (read damaging!) stress to the lugs in offroad use. Any thoughts?

I'd imagine that it might cause some extra stress, but what doesn't. I was just wondering where you got your spacers and how much did you pay? Thanks and good luck/

I'm getting them through a local independant tire store for six bucks a piece! When I pick them up, I'll try to get info on where they get them, and I'll post that info. They carry several different bolt patterns, but only one thickness, 3/8".

Rangerx -

Could you e-mail me a picture of what it looks like.

What exactly are wheel spacers? Are they what you put between your wheels and then they stick out? I would want something like that, and $6 is not bad. Is that for a set of four or a set of two? Tell me if you like yours, I'm interested. I have 30/9.50/15 all terrains on the stock 5 lug rim. Is this okay to add to? Are they unsafe? What about the brakes? Thanks.

I strongly suggest that anyone considering this option consider going to hardened studs. You can get them anywhere and its cheap insurance. That would also allow you to get the proper length.

I have seen the wheel spacers made by Mr. Gasket at a local parts store, but they looked pretty cheezy! I am running a 3/4" spacer on the front of my 67' stang in order to get 17" wheels on it but I had mine machined.

good luck,
Rick

I picked up my spacers today. They're somewhat of a universal fit for five lug wheels, with slots for the lugs. They are very light, made of aluminium, and are 5/16", not 3/8". The owner told me he has 1/2" ones for his '63 Nova that he races, and has no problems with them. He gets them from Prestige Wheel Accesories, 1-800-854-6770. I paid six bucks apiece, but they look easy enough to make if you're so inclined.

kvo, I can't email you a pic, but email me if you want further info. I could send you a traced outline....?

There is a catalogue for Explorers called cruisers-it has been mentioned before. They have all sorts of good stuff @ decent prices, including 3/16 & 5/16" thick wheel spacers. www.cruisers-truck.com
