i have 113K miles on my 98SOHC. Runs great. no major problems with my engine yet.

My question:
-When should i rebuild the engine?
-Wait for it to break?
-Dont fix whats not broken?

Also, anyone who's had this done; how much does it cost?

And is it effective or a waist of money?

Thanks in advance!

Don't fix what ain't broke!! If it's running well and you maintain it regularly, run it until it either performs poorly due to wear (low power, heavy oil usage) or something breaks. Preventive maintenance is good, but I wouldn't rebuild until forced to (unless you are doing serious performance upgrades where you need stronger motor components to handle the power)

I agree. You could put on a LOT more miles with that engine by just regular maintanence.

Many more miles to go yet....

I had 220K on a 4 banger escort and never even tore into the engine or tranny. Just replaced valve cover gasket.

And I have 170K on my 91 X and it still runs like a top. Doesn't even use a drop of oil betwwen 5K oil changes.
