My Ex was built the first week of November. When can I put some wax on it?
Was thinking it may need a coat with winter driving ahead.

Any time. The dealer already waxed it before you took it home.

Never had any of my dealerships do that. Great customer service for the ones that do.

I've had all my vehicles waxed by the dealer (3 at Toyota, 1 at Ford) before I picked them up. It was part of the dealer preparation.

My detailer (and after researching online) said wax it. The only time you should wait is if it gets painted at a body shop.

Don't think it's that great, they can add a lot of paint swirl marks if the dealership does a poor job on the waxing, which is not uncommon.

This is a thing og the past. Modern paints and clear-coats "cure" within days/hours now.

If you don't want your paint farked-up, NEVER let a dealership wash or wax your car/truck. Never!

The day you drive her home.

I recemmend a few things:

1) Quickly clay the truck- to remove any contaminants from the paint, so when you wax it, your don't scratch/swirl the paint. Pay special attention to the rear liftgate area.

2) If you already have swirls, the paint will need to be polished (corrected) after claying (and a second washing) prior to waxing. Hope fully the paint is pretty "minty" and you can just wash, clay, wash again, and wax.

3) A great wax would be RejeX. Easy on. Easy off. Great shine & protection.

4) Use quality clothes and towels.

Congrats on your new truck. And forward thinking as to proper care & treatment/protection.

Yes. That's true of the factory. By the time a vehicle reaches the end of the assembly line it is 90 to 95 % cured. By the time it gets to dealer it's good to go.

soon

I waxed mine the next day. Nothing feels as good as a freshly waxwd exployer. Smooth as a babies bottom.

When it gets too hairy...

sorry, I couldn't resist

uhhh I wouldn't call swirling, and buffering trails galore "great customer service" ;) . I would never let any dealer for any make/model touch my vehicle. I've seen even extoics like Lambo's get "dealer prepped" only to have the paint look like hell (though to the owner they think it looks great).

Reminds me of a buddy who bought a new M3 few months ago, BMW dealer prepped it... omg, he thought it looked so nice. I was like dude look here at the angle, they swirled the hell out of your paint and there were buffer trails going down the doors. He didn't really care, just that it "looked waxed".

Different strokes... some people have no clue what the difference is between that a good detailing job.

I waxed a couple weeks after I got it. It definitely needed to be clayed also even though I'd driven only a couple times (it's my sunday car and is always in garage)

This is what I did:

1. Clayed (test if paint needs this by sliding your hand across to see if it's perfectly smooth. If not, then you NEED to clay)
2. Used Chrome polish on chrome bits, exhaust tips and step bars
3. Cleaned windows
4. Waxed everything: painted areas, chrome, windows, headlights (but not the blk plastic lower panels)
5. Waxed again
6. Waxed again =)
7. Paint is now protected for whatever the winter has planned for it ;)

I agree with this. When I picked up my explorer all the pillars were covered with swirls. When I complained, the detailer said that it was normal to look that way:mad:

$500 reduction in price and a little Meguiars Scratch-X and car looks mint:D

Brazilian? Oh anytime, all the time! :D

I intend to use Black Velvet carnuba wax by Top of the Line. Used it on my black mustang. It has a black pigment in it that will not turn white on the black plastic trim. Used it ON the black trim on my F150 and did much better than any dressing. It aint cheap but very impressed with it so far. My Ex is the Tuxedo black so i"ll repost with results.

Don't wax it, drive it because soon enough, someone will put a door ding in it, scratch it or fling up a rock which will but a nice ding/chip in your aluminum hood.

Take a picture and you can show it to everyone and say, this is what it looked like new!

There is an unsupportable evil force in the world that tagets new vehiches and it seeks out those who avoid it the most!

You have been warned! It's coming for you!

Otherwise, I really like the Zanio products!:D

Now that I think of it, I have some swirls there too. I think the dealer probably did them when they washed the car after I brought it in for a service... sob. looks like I'll be getting some Meguiars Scratch-X
