I just trying to find out when we might be able to get some kind of big group together that is a little closer that California? I wouldnt really mind having to drive to Arizona or maybe even someplace closer, but I would love to get a bunch of Explorers (Rangers) together for some fun. I wanted so badly to go to Truckhaven Hills but it was a 1400 mile track and that was just to far. Does anyone know of any places in between Dallas and Arizona? Lets see what we can work out.

How far is Tellico NC from you all??

How far is Moab from you??
I live in Maryland and am seriously considering doing the Moab trip. From what I've seen and heard the place is worth every hour it takes to get there. I haven't even checked to see how many miles it is from my house yet but I put my name on the list for May already.... Personally if I'm going to drive over 4 hours to go wheelin it better be worth it. That and when I drive that far I plan to stay for at least a week. That's just my feelings on the subject. If Tellico North Carolina isn't too far for you guys then maybe we can try and get a bunch of east coasters and a few midwesters to come over and have a big ol' fourwheelin' party.
But I hear Moab is a trip of a lifetime.... Just some food for thought...

Happy wheelin,

I am glad to finally hear from someone on this subject. Moab is about 1300 miles away from Dallas. i am seriously thinking about making the drive though. i get so jealous when I hear about all these fun trips that are going on that are just to far from me. i would love to get a bunch of us together for some wheelin and talking. lets see if we can keep this forum going to see if anyone has any ideas. Texas is pretty much out of the question because you will get shot on the land out here. Lets see what we can come up with.

I am not to sure if this is anything anyone would be interested in but I'll give it a shot. I live in New Mexico. There are some pretty sweet trails in Las Cruses, New Mexico. I hear they are for the modified rigs, not much for stock trucks. I know the Jeep jambories go out there all the time. If you guys are interested I can see if I can get some info on the trails. Let me know if you would like me to check it out! You can Email me at BBsBauer@aol.com

Is there any where close to austin that seams like a good area and it is in the middle of Texas. I would like to go on a run but I have that small problem... 2wd and the fact that work keeps me close to home.

Explorerdude, NC is about a 2 1/2 days drive from where I live. I drove to Mertle Beach SC over the summer and it was not a fun drive 24 hours wourth of Driving (and a mom complaining about the two doors on my Navajo).

Las Cruses has many trails that will chew up even the best of the short and thin rigs. It does have some ok intermediate runs as well. I don't know if I would take a stocker there.

I Farmington, New Mexico 3hrs north of ALBQ is a huge amount of Very hard and easy trails. It is much like moab on a smaller scale w/ sandstone as well as granite to wheel on. 40 min north of there is Durango, Colorado. From there you can find all sorts of mountain wheeling from 2x to extreme4x4. The catch is that most of it will be impassable till may.

1-2 hrs from ALBQ up 95 and then west on hwy 160 is Mt. Blanca, another 4x4 haven that is impassable till may but well worth the wait

There has got to be someplace to go that is not 1000+ miles from home. I’m going to meet up with the Tx4x4 group next weekend at Padre, so there is a pretty good chance someone there will know of a spot in central Texas, or at least in the state. There are over 50 vehicles on the list, so it should be pretty cool.

Sounds great. Lets tryto find someplace where everyone can have some fun. We will need a mix of hard and easier trails.

I can make anything around the Texas area. Work keeps me close to home so anything as far as a weekend run would be awesome. I am going to look for info about on Farmington trails cause there is alot of beginer to advanced trails. Not to sure if you guys would want to come all the way out here but I think it's only about a 6-8 hour drive from Dallas....Not to sure about the time on that.

As far as the Texas guys are concerned, I don't know of anyplace in Texas, but there are a few good places in Oklahoma, from mild to moderate to downright knarly. I live in Kansas City and go to a nice place north of Manhattan, Kansas called Tuttle Creek ORV area. It has a good mixture of mild to mostly moderate trails, with a few advanced runs for heavily modified rigs. It is also very scenic, being right next to a large resevoir. Paul Sabin and I are trying to get a run together for mid Feb. If anyone is interested, post on this topic board.

One of the Oklahoma areas is in Disney, OK below the dam of Grand Lake of the Cherokees, which is in N.E. Oklahoma. It is mostly for hardcore rock crawlers with heavily modified rigs. It was featured in the Feb. 2000 issue of Four Wheeler magazine.

There are a few other areas in Oklahoma and Arkansas that the guys from my 4x4 shop go to. I would of liked to go out west to Truckhaven and am seriously considering Moab, but yes it would be nice to do something closer to home. I'll research the Oklahoma possibilities more. If anyone is interested in coming up to Kansas, Paul and I could definitely show you a good time at Tuttle Creek. It is an area that is just right for Explorers, whether stock, or lightly to heavily modified.

If you come up with anything in Texas, let us know.

Hey guys, check out the thread he's talking about. Would anyone else be interested in checking out Kansas with me for President's Day weekend? It would be a long drive from Dallas, but acheivable. Kris, Shaggy, and you other guys down south would have a pretty long way to go though. I can't remember names, but I've noticed maybe a half dozen to ten or so DFW area members scan this board regularly. Are you guys out there now?

Also, Brian I see you've got monster lifts on your rigs but they are 2wd. Have you got lockers?

PS: Oh yeah, Scott, I looked at those Las Cruses threads and that looks like some pretty major modified terrain. I remember as a kid twenty (plus) years ago taking jeep trails up the mountains to old mining ghost towns in the Red River area. Do you know anything about those; if they still exist, etc?

I have limited slip on my Ranger and nothing on my Explorer yet. I am just waiting to find a groupl to go do some trail riding before I go put the money into it. i can have it done real quick.

Hello, I'm new to this 4X4 stuff, so go easy on me. What about Clayton, OK. It's about 1 1/2 hours North of Dallas. I havn't been there but a friend of mine in the Jeep club said they have all types of trails from 2 to 6's out there. They had there big Dog challenge there and the pics looked good. I've got a 94 Explorer with 31 X 11.5's on it. 4" lift being planned. I'll try any trail you guys want to hit. But I'm mostly stock.

Thanks

GJarrett,

I haven't been able to find to much yet. I some pics here and there about the Trails in Farmington. Everyone around here says it's like a mini-moab. I have heard of some Trails up in Red River, But I am not sure if any are still open. I'll ask the jeep club down here and see where they go. Tomorrow Is my Day off so I'll hit every 4x4 shop in town and see if I can dig up some dirt. Till then!
