Where do you keep the spare?

I thought about having a smaller spare, but then decided what the hell, why not. So I bought another wheel and tire. Full size is better.

What if the spare was deflated, would it be possible to fit a 33" in the stock spare area. I don't know much about this, so if this is just a dumb question, Let me know why.

Unless you have a great onboard air compressor or an air tank, having a deflated spare would do you no good. You couldn't deflate it under 15 or so reliably without risking the bead seal, and you don't want to be sitting on the side of the road for an extra 15 minutes airing up a tire. And I don't think putting it down to 15 psi would make is small enough to fit anyway.

EDIT: I always carry onboard air and I still wouldn't want to do this. Imagine being late for something and having a flat. With the spare aired up I could have it changed in 10 minutes easily. Add another 5-10 to that and that's still 5-10 more minutes that you're late. And on the trail, it's not cool to make people wait for you to air up a spare.

Thanx

If you guys are worried about this... Just keep a smaller spare and do the brown wire mod. That way, if you ever get a flat in the rear, move the larger front tire to the back and put the spare on the front and then flick the switch to disable the 4x4. I think this is what i'm gonna do if a 265/75-16 doesn't fit in factory location. B/c I don't wanna mess with a roof rack and further kill my MPG (and add more weight to an already high center of gravity)

Yes that is a High Lift mounted on studs I welded to the rear bumper, and no it doesn't seem top heavy to me.
I have been almost all the way laid on my side and it has not flipped so far.:D

Msupertek :

you said that before you had the roof rack you just ratcheted it down to the stock rack? how stable was this? The highlift under the bumper looks like a good idea on there too.

I am starting to think that I definitely want a full size spare. more for trail accidents than on road stuff.

I had my 31" spare on my roof in my rack for a long time. I only had it tied down with 2 rubber bungy cords and it did great. Never moved or anything.

Happy trails!!

Well I just ordered a bumper from Cory, so that's where my spare will be going!

hey msupertek, do you have metal flake paint ? or was your X wet ? it looks like either one in the picture you posted with your gasoline container.

Here is a close up

Oh, for the paint question, it has the factory paint job, it was sprinkling outside when I clipped that shot.

Have you ever had any trouble from cops about the high lift covering part of your tag? They are pretty strict about that around here.

No not really, the picture angle makes it look like its covered but its really not. I made sure if you are sitting behind me in a truck or car it is clearly visible. No cops have ever stopped me for this concern, and I have had this set up the same way for about a year.
