I have 97 XLT with 5.0. Where the heck is my PCV valve? Am I blind and just not seeing it? I hear it is in back of engine. My mechanic said you almost have to take the plenum off to get to it. Is that true?

Just about
it is way back in the center of the lower intake manifold. You'll need to work by feel. Just follow the PCV hose down to it.

I recommend replacing the seal grommet also. This is where it will develop a vacuum leak.

Turdle, thanks for reply. I will get out o check on it ASAP! Could that also be the reason for the rotten egg smell under hard throttle?

like turdle said to actually see the valve in its place you have to either take off the ibtake plennium or take off the hood it took me about a day of searching to find it by feeling...if you reach behind the intake manifold you will find a hose that haas a T on it then when you feel you cant go anymore pull directly UP and it should come up check this out http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149983&highlight=seafoam this helped me out ALOT specifically look at pics 3 and 4 the thing at the end of the hose is the PCV valve pulled out of the engine you will hear a vacuum when you pull it out I put the pictures on my ipod touch and stared at the engine for about 2 hours...good luck

Does your check engine light illuminate while driving?

Ok this may be a n00b question, but can you leak oil from back there if the PCV system is bad?

The PCV valve is a vacuum line there shouldnt be oil coming from it but is it possiable...im not sure

Well, you should not be leaking oil there unless there is a lot of blow by. Where do you see oil?

Check engine light has NOT come on. I am just looking for ideas as to the rotten egg smell under hard throttle. I have had the Exp since 2001 when it had only 62,000 on it. It has 193,000 now, and I have never changed it.

I don't see any just smell some oil. I think I may be burning/leakin oil from somewhere and just tryin to do the process of elimination. It's also not an extreme smell just a lighter scent here and there after long periods of driving.
