Can anyone suggest a place to buy a replacement mirror glass for the passenger side door mirror on a 98 Explorer, i am looking for the glass and plastic backing plate.
Thank
I would recommend going to a wrecking yard for a replacement, it all comes as an assembly. I wanted to do the same thing on mine and took a broken one apart to see how it was put together and now I understand why it's an assembly. It would be physically possible to replace just the glass but not worth the effort it would take.
Agreed- if you've spent that much time and effort looking for it, wouldn't it have been easier and less time consuming to get a new one? I googled 1998 explorer mirror and it came up on the first page for $17 shipped from rock auto. Probably only the backing plate to the mirror glass, not the nubs. If you need everything, hit a yard, or get a new mirror- they're only $12 more than the glass alone.
Thanks again, i was hoping to get just the glass and backing plate as im from the UK but trip over to the US every few weeks and to be honest didnt want to carry a whole new mirror back with me! however i didnt realise they were that cheap for the whole unit, cheapest ive found in the UK is well over $70!
thanks again will look at rockauto
No problem, im over in the US once every 8 weeks or so so its not a problem getting things shipped to my US address. Shame i cant gas up while im over there!!! $12.50 a gallon here and its going up again!
I know, always makes me laugh when im in the US and friends drive miles to save 10 cents a gallon
It costs me $190 to fill up the tank! Its actually worse too because things ARE so close it uses more gas!
They only made the Ex in the UK for a few years, it was too heavy on gas and you dont find many about for that reason! i bought mine 2 years ago, its a 98, had 32,000 miles, has air, leather, cruise, full Ford service history etc etc and it cost me the equivalent of $2500!!! i did the math and for me to buy a small car that was gonna last was gonna cost me upwards of $12,000, and id get maybe twice the milage if i was lucky, its my little piece of the US here in the UK
