Hello everybody,

I own a '91 Explorer. I bought it used and the rust was included.
It has a lovely case of rot under the driver's side passenger door and a few other bubbles under the front wheelwell.
Anyone have any recommendations for sources of replacement sheet metal?
It's a great truck and I'd like to get it in good shape.

Thanks!

Well you can do one of two things. You can either replace the whole body panel, or you can cut the rust out and weld a piece of metal in, grind smooth, primer and paint.

Ford will sell you all the new sheet metal you want I am sure. Hear me and hear me well DO NOT TRUST AFTERMARKET SHEET METAL PARTS
For the door replacement is the ticket , it's pretty easy. Repair , due to the fact that it covers what is actually two surfaces it can get ugly.
The bubbles on the front fender , how ever , repairing might be the better idea. You can use the good matal from your old door !

I think I got my door legs from WWW.rustrepair.com
They still are not painted but I welded them in over a year ago and they still look great. From the looks of my explorer the original FORD sheet metal didn't hold up very good so I would go with aftermarket for the rocker pieces since the metal was thicker than original not to metion the price. Get a door out of the junk yard if you need that the original will fit much better. I just got one for $50 complete. After I welded in the rockers I filled the back part with expandable foam and used a heavy rubberized under coat on in the back wheel wells.
