Hey Guys, do any of you know where a cheap place to get a transmission shift cable would be? I called a dealership and they quoted $110!!! I called a local auto wrecker specializing in Fords and they don't have any. I know I could go to a pick n pull, but just want to know if any of you have any suggestions or happen to have one lying around.

Thanks,
Raphael

Ha this is a hard part to find.

I also had to replace mine, sorda.
I converted my truck to an auto from a 5 speed, so I needed a "kick down" cable.
My problem was i am using an Explorer tranny in a BII with a BII floor shifter, so an Explorer cable would not work.

Finding the BII cable proved to be quite a challenge!!!
I tried Ford dealer, $120 they wanted.

I tried Ford Parts Network, like $95 they wanted.

I rigged an Explorer cable to work temporarily, and continued my search.

Here's the problem. Junk yards always yank the transmissions for Explorer's, Rangers, and BII's. When they do they CUT the kick down cable to save time. So finding a replacement cable at the junk yards is very difficult.
However I ended up finding the exact part I needed in a ROLLED BII, they were unable to get the transmission or engine out, but I was able to squeeze in there enough to unhook the cable from the pedal, and then from underneath at the tranny.
I had been on the lookout for this cable for almost a year, checking every junk yard I was in the whole time (quite often) eventually I found it.

Now I did find several cables for Explorer's. But again, usually if the engine or transmission have been removed the cable has been cut.

Your best bet is a U pull it, and keep checking back for new arrivals. Also maybe even tell the yard, show them what you are looking for, so they dont cut the next one they get.......

Either that or order one from a dealer and pay the $$$$$

Thanks for the replys. When I called that Ford truck wrecker I mentioned above, they said that when they remove the trannys, they just cut the cable and never save them. Fordpartsnetwork.com quoted me $78, so I might just get it from them. I don't want to go through the hassle of checking periodically at a pick n pull.

Thanks for all of your help fellas.
