I'm needing to replace the driver side CAT pipe, the first segment that runs directly off the manifold (don't know what it's called), it has an O2 sensor in it. My local salvage yard informed me they are not permitted to sell any used CAT parts and that I would have to purchase a new one. I'm in NJ and not sure if this is a state-by-state law or fed?

Anyone know of an affordable source on-line and what the part would be called?

Thanks all!

My local exhaust shop fabbed the pipe and put an 02 sensor bung right where it needed to be. Maybe if you go to a smaller city in your area and find a "mom and pop" exhaust shop you can get this performed for a reasonable price?

Oh, they also put an 02 sensor in the passenger side cat--it can be done if they want to do it.

Know of a place that sells the whole replacement part?

Once again I suggest a local exhuast shop. They will only be a little higher for the part than on line, but will be pissed when you bring your on line part to them to weld in. They make a little profit on the parts, and you are guaranteed a good fit.

Or, Get one on line and run the risk of a bad description or fitment. Make 2 or more trips to exhaust shop. Your call.

Thanks, but I'm not looking to weld anything together. I'm looking for an original used pipe or a new one to bolt in.

Anyone know what this segment is called as I think they may have it at Rock Auto?

Might anyone know what the part is called so that I can locate it?

Catalytic converter. You need the front left.
I went to google, typed in "1997 ford explorer 5.0 left catalytic converter", hit the shopping tab and it took me right there.

Once on rockauto, look in the exhaust section and catalytic converter is highlighted.

Thanks, but I was hoping to isolate the specific part. It's the segment that comes off the driver side manifold with an O2 sensor on it?

Dude if you look you will see the pipe and cat are one piece. You need all of it unless you want to weld.

Yes. I'm just not able to distinguish which pipe it is in the whole list on Rock Auto....there are many.
