This is my third Explorer, but my first V8. This engine takes up considerably more room in the engine compartment. I'm having some trouble locating a factory grommet to run my 4 gauge power wire trough. I would prefer the driver's side (battery side). Any suggestions?

I have a 91 and I put my amp under the back seat on the passenger side and my battery is on the passenger side. Well, I only knew of the one rubber grommet on the drivers side and I didn't have enough wire to go all the way over to the drivers side and run it through there and then run the cable accross the back of the engine compartment and have enough wire to make it so here's what I did. I ran the wire along the doors, under the kick panels and then I drilled a hole in the floorboard and ran the wire through there. Then I ran the wire as close to the fender as possible to keep it away from the manifolds and what have you. And to keep it in place I drilled 2 small holes in the plastic fenderwell and ran a zip tie thingy through the 2 holes and pulled the tie around the wire to keep it in place. Then I cut off the remaining wire and put the fuse holder back on and connected it to the battery. I would have put a hole in the passenger firewall and put a grommet on there, but there is all that air conditioning stuff right there. You could always drill a hole in the firewall and go buy a little rubber grommet at some auto parts store and then you could run the wire through like that or you could kinda do what I did and run the wire onto the fenderwell. It isn't that hard.

Easy!! Work from the inside out in this case!

There is a grommet on the drivers side, but it is under the brake booster. Locate it under the dash, and run it through from the inside, snake it out till you can see it, and then run it along the fender. I ran 2 power cables for my Amp, and for my trailer harness. I then mounted the circuit breakers right to the fender next to the relay box using some existing holes.

Good luck. Dead Link Removed

I also ran my power wire through the rubber grommet behind the brake. I just wanted to let everyone know that it is possible to run 0 guage wire through there. My wires comes from the factory battery, snakes along the inside fender wall through the grommet, and then under the carpet under the front seat, it then goes up under the plastic on the drivers side rear and I mounted my fusebox just inside the access panel. From there I have 4 guage wire connecting out to my amplifiers, the sub amplifier mounted on the box and the 4 channel amplifier mounted under the passenger side 2/3 rear seat. I also added a 1 Farad Capacitor by running 4 guage wire from the side of the fuse box before the fuses. This made the greatest affect on my streo as it never cuts out at all, even with an MTV 2300x amp running 2 Kicker 12" XPL subs.
