Greetings everyone, checking all these posts it seems like homecoming to all the work I've done on this explorer.I'll apologize in advance for the length of this post.
Where do I start? Beginning or end. I guess I'll start at the end. Was driving back up from Orange County 1:15am, went to exit, the '91EB4X4auto 187kmi Explorer just died, cruised to a stop, couldn't get it started, acted like a battery problem ie. slow turn over, dim lights(earlier in the day noticed slight whine in transmission on load in 2nd). Popped the hood, noticed the radiator/cap was off, fluid everywhere, re-filled radiator, general inspection, tried to start again. After much labor, she started, dropped her into gear, nothing. No drive no reverse. Called AAA.
Oil level OK, trans level OK but fluid is burnt, all wires and hoses seem to be ok. I have an add-on called a fuel saver ( it bubbles platinum into the engine via the pcv valve). It's been on for 3years squeaking out more torque, more mpg (3-4) and better perfomance overall.
Anyway in the almost five years I've been maintaining My girlfriend's Explorer I've replaced power steering pump/hoses, O2 sensor, Cat. converter, TPS sensor, Pplugs/wires, shocks, springs, radius arm bushings, of course brakes oil etc, I Had the trans filter and fluid changed by Tire Station less than a year ago, a week or two later the trans slipped out of gear and wouldn't engage forward or reverse. It was cold and I had to shut down the engine and wait for five minutes before I could get it to engage again. I checked the fluid level while I waited and it was about a pint over. I took it back to them they removed the extra, and said this wouldn't happen again. Well it did, not a lot, but once a month or so. I took it to them again and one of the mechanics said "it's old you gotta expect some quirks".Well this is a lot more than a Quirk in my book,
My girlfriend wants to give this vehicle to her daughter and her husband, (not mech. inclined and little to no money to spend) on the 26th of March. But before that even gets close to happenning I've got to get it going,( it quit while I was using it, feel a certain amount of responsability there. I don't have the money for a rebuild or a good tranny guy to take it to.( I tried calling that Doug"s Transmissions 480-288-0043, or 480-964-3832 somebody posted in Nov last year. Either his number changed or he's moved (not aworking # on the 1st, no answer on the 2nd)
So I know minimally I'm going to have to change the fluid- filter, and from the posts I'll have to check the tort converter, check the vacuum modulater, and check the governor in the tail shaft. I I would like a step-by-step procedure or confirmation if anyone has mind to do so.
Again, I apologize for the length of his post, and want to thank everyone in advance for their time and energy. I'm coming to youall because I believe in learning from others experience to lessen the chances of making mistakes. God bless you all and this WebSite.
Thanks Again,
