I have a 1996 V8 Limited. I want to replace the amp for the subwofer in the back. I am currently using my own boxes...but when the bass gets too heavy it cuts out. Where is the amp?

The FACTORY amp is behind the passenger rear paneling, against the outer wall.

So that would put it just in front of the factory subwofer?

correct... its connected to the same big black piece of plastic that the sub is. just take off the paneling and youll see the amp right next to the sub

Found it...THANKS!!!!!!

Fellas! I need some assistance. Heres my scenario. I was listening to music and all of a sudden my sub went out. My front speakers and mids work. I am now thinking that it may be the amp, because it doesn't seem as loud as it used to be. Is there a sure way of testing the amp vs the subwoofer? Any suggestions? Is taking off that grill over the sub to get to the amp hard and can it be put back on just the same?

Thanks in advance!

You cannot get to the amp from the hole where the sub rests...you have to take that whole panel off...sucks huh!?

Ahh F--- it then. I'll just go and by a new amp and some subs. =) Anyone got some suggestions...biggest bang for the buck type of thing? I am looking for a 2-channel amp, about 400 watts and some subs 12's.

EBAY.... you can actually find a bolt in replacement mtx setup for mid 200 something and if you wanna pay less you can do it ur own way but amps online are cheap.... i would avoid the red sony amps because they have problems with causing fires
