I have a 1996 Explorer Sport with the 4.0l OHV. Old owners kid threw on a cheap and crappy “CAI” or hot air intake as I call it.

I’m not even sure what the original one for this year looks like. I was told a 95’ would fit, but another person said it wouldn’t. I was told a 99 would fit. What do I need or can someone here post a photo of the stock air cleaner/MAF and tubing for my year? I figured 95-02 should all fit if OHV

Open to anybody selling a full air box and intake tube. I am in Washington state, West-Side as well as Tri-Cities.

Thanks y’all

Google “1998 ford explorer 4.0 OHV intake hose”.

It Might be scarce to find this obsolete part, and that may explain the installation of the CAI system. Salvage might be your best answer, if you can find one in decent condition. Any salvage yard will have information on interchangeability between years.

Good luck.

95/96 had a round airbox and filter, the mas sensor is built into the airbox

The 97-00 (last year if the ohv) use the square airbox just like the sohc the mas sensor is not built in

You can convert to a 97-00’setup if you wish
You will need the airbox mount, the airbox and intake tube. I assume your cai kit still has the stock mas air flow sensor attached somehow. But if you get a new square airbox and intake tube setup make sure that style of mas is included

98-00 will have two additional wires at the mas sensor. This is because they added the iat (intake air temp sensor) that used to be in the air tube to the mas sensor. You can convert to one of those intake and airboxes as well and just wire in the iat sensor

These would be pretty easy to find in the junk yard any ohv ranger or explorer will have the bits you need

I do not have any of the round airbox setups for the ohv
