I am contemplating buying a chip for my truck in the next couple of weeks. I have been looking at super chips and hypertech but I have had no luck with finding one that will work on my truck. I was wondering if anyone on here knows where I can get a chip from and who is the better manufacturer of them. Also another question has to do with what is the benefit from using one to change my shifting points? also if you have a chip what are some of the differences you have noticed in your truck?

hypertech and superchip are good ....stay away from jet

Why do you not recommend a Jet chip?

Thanks....

Changing your shift point will allow you get more out of each gear. The engine will scream alittle more and the transmission wont shift into the next gear as quick, it'll hold out alittle longer. (ya end up going alittle faster)

If you search the board for super chip or hypertech, someone posted a link to a write up by road and track or car and driver regarding the actual performance of of a bunch of chips. Jet got one of the worst write ups.

Also for the best JET chip, you need to install their 180 degree thermostat or else your cooling will be all off. The whole JET vs Hypertech vs Superchip thing has really been discussed a lot. At the time Superchips seemed best but not Hypertech has their Power Programmer III out which to me sounds like a neat little idea--to be able to reprogram things yourself. Hopefully Superchips is working on a similar thing.

from what i have read off of this board, jet chips are too problematic. hypertech or superchip are better

Well kristen, let me just tell you this. If you look at my mods, I did not notice any power or mpg increase after intalling these. (all of my mods were installed one at a time) Until the superchip. When I installed the superchip I expected the front of my truck to lift off the ground on acceleration. That did'nt happen. At first I tried to "gun it" around town. It kind of felt like it was faster, but that could have been all in my head. Then I took it on the highway and really laid into it. WOW, what a difference in acceleration off the line and at highway passing speeds. You have the V8 like me, and I think that it is very much worth the 200 clams that I payed for it. Maybe my truck is as quick as it is due to all of the other mods that I currently have? I highly recommend the superchip due to the ease of installation and the "bang for the buck". I've also read that with the changing of the shift points from the chip, it puts less strain on the tranny, making it last longer???? Sounds good, and hope its true. Good luck

well i'd go with superchip i'm doin a group buy on it, check it out in the general explorations forum. we're looking for about 10-15 more people. thanks!

I only have positive things to say about the Superchip. I also still use regular unleaded (although they recommend Super) and my last tank driving to DC and back averaged me 19.2 MPG! Not bad considering I started with 13.5 MPG but I also have other mods. Go for it!

Have you had any problems by using 87 gas?

I have had a Jet chip for about 7 months and i love it. I noticed a large power gain in my mid and high RPM's.
