I have been reading here and elsewhere and have gotten mixed mesages.
I am about to perform a coolant flush on my 06 V8. Are there any new guidlines on which coolant is best etc... and proper procedures for doing it myself. All comments and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the information Swshawii.
Someone told me that Ford changed the coolant reccomendations in 2011. That is the main reason I asked and also I have a f250 6.4 and people started leaving The Gold coolant and went to CAT ELC for diesel and gas engines. Your thoughts please.

From what I understand on the larger engines model year 2011+ the corrosion inhibitors in the coolant deplete with time between change outs and so Ford/Motorcraft is now offering revitalizer solutions to replenish the corrosion inhibitors. To my knowledge that is the only change that has been made and is only specific to the diesel/large unleaded engine models.
On another note, if you cannot get your hands on Zerex, Prestone Extended life works good (it's what I use) and is also an ethylene glycol based coolant like the factory fill Motorcraft gold.

I agree with what you say, but the last time I needed some my local NAPA was out and I needed coolant to finish a job that day so I had to settle for the Prestone Extended Life since I didn't feel like paying the price for the Motorcraft Gold.

Not sure what you intend that message to imply but Prestone Extended Life is perfectly appropriate for application in these vehicles. Is it marketed as a ford certified replacement, no, but why bother having to pay marketing fees to Ford when you have a product that doesn't need it. It even meets the same ASTM specs. as the Motorcraft gold and Zerex G05. Also, the color of the coolant does not always indicate compatability between different brand products.
