I am replacing the clutch fan on my 92 explorer with an electric.I wanted to use a taurus fan but its to big.Anyone else here replace their fan? What did you use?It looks to be 18" wide and 18 1/2" high.I would like a two speed fan.And I want something good enough to still be able to run the ac in traffic. Thanks

You could try a Chevy HHR fan. For my setup with underdrive pullies it wasn't quite enough but if you're not doing that it should be good to go. JD4242 likes his on his very modified 1st Gen 4x4.

I'm selling mine along with the Spal progressive controller so if you're interested and/or need measurements PM Me.

I scored an electric fan with temp control from LMC trucks. I have it on my B2 I did a 4.L swap on. It'll suck the bugs of the radiators when full on. If you think you'll find yourself submerging the fan when crossing streams or rivers, you should add a manual shut off to the fan. Contrary to popular belief, the fan will not act as a propeller to get you through the water.... :) Although I did encounter a failure in one of their fans... that was just after I did the swap.. thank God I had a spare.

I have an e fan setup in my 92, i used a 95 to 98 taurus fan. I cut the fan out of the stock taurus shroud and mounted it in the explorer shroud. It actually looks pretty good.

Thanks

I was looking at that exact fan for my '92. How is it working out for you?

I used a 3.8L (3.0L are WAY too thick) Taurus fan on a 91. If you have the manual tranny with single core radiator it's an easy fit. I had to put in a dual core auto rad in and it made it really tight, but some creative trimming got it all in there.

I cut the water pump stub flush with the belt pulley. Rotated the Taurus fan 90 degs and pushed it all the way to the drivers side. I also trimmed 1/2" off the face of the fan shroud to move it in closer. You can see a line in the plastic where to cut.

Oh BTW, don't buy the cheap Autozone fan controller, it's garbage and keeps dying. ;)

find a dual speed fan from a Grand Cherokee Limited. Hook the high speed up to your a/c and the low to the thermo-switch. Bear in mind though, you will have to mount the fan to the shroud. Better yet, grab the Grand Cherokee's shroud and make it fit. They are similar size. On high they crank out way more air than the stock one. you can't mount it directly to the radiator because the blades stick out from the frame about 1/8". On the J**p they mount with 3 screws into the fan shroud. run two relays. Advanced Auto parts sells a fan relay w/thermo-switch kit for like $20. that covers the low speed.

BTW, I tried the Taurus fan and it didn't fit well, and it didn't have high enough CFM to cool when the a/c was on.
I planned on replacing the Taurus fan with the Cherokee fan but I had already tossed my shroud. But I was going to use this wiring setup.

Actually, I have a brand new, never hooked up Mopar dual speed e-fan I'm not using. I paid $289 from Dodge. I'll sacrifice it for $150.

I really like the Jeep Grand Cherokee fan solution, what concerns me is the fitment. Even though the LMC fan I have now only has a single speed it does a great job cooling the motor when on. The Jeep idea will be at the top of my list when and if the LMC fan bites the dust. The first one lasted me 10 years or more. :D

Thanks for the great schematic Tweak!

Elaborate, I just use it as a control, it does not power the fan and I have not had a problem yet...

Maybe I just got unlucky, but my first one died (not sure how) within 30 days and now the second is on it's way out, although it lasted about 6 months. I'm just using it to trigger a relay.

I've had a lot of bad luck with Autozone junk though.

i know its been a while since anyones posted anything but i have a question or 2 for you. 86 is the input and 85 and 87 (85 when open 87 when closed)are outputs 30 is power. if im right (which i think i am but not 100% sure) then it runs like this, switch is set to auto which allows the circut to engage t-stat which when closed due to temp engages 86 on first relay which engages fan. the relay used for high speed is only engages when switch is set to high which engages high speed on fan the 3rd is the grounding relay. ok now that i wrote that i think i figured out what i was going to ask but i'll ask anyway. if i install a 2nd tstat but a higher temp in series with the first, could i set that to a relay that would disengage the low fan relay and engage the high fan and set both to the auto switch. please correct me if im wrong. 2nd question is how many amps are being pulled with the low and high speeds so i know what relays and fuses to use.

I put an HHR fan in one of mine. Works perfect
