I have a 99 6cyl engine - but how do i know which one. The 160hp one or the 200hp one - s0c or double overhead cam one?

I searched under 'which engine' but nothing came up relevant.

If you have a SOHC, it is right on top of the engine and it says SOHC 4.0. If you have a 4.0 OHV your intake hose should be directly in front of the engine, right in the middle not. You could always just run the VIN of the vehicle

these are labelled, sohc and ohv, hp i couldnt say

The sohc will have a figure 8 style intake the ohv is more of a strait intake .that's just a visual but if you have the cover one it'll be harder to see but it says which one it is as andrewlcarson said.

if you have the sohc it will make a lot of chain noise, if not now, later...

if you have the ohv... you have a damn reliable engine that has low power :chug:

Thanks guys, I have the OHV -I looked at my vin and the eighth digit is an X. I had this same engine in my 96 explorer. It feels more powerful than 160hp. I just had 150hp in a 95 4runner and it was a lot slower. I just got my sport last Thursday and it needs some work -tune up, back brakes etc. it is so personal being a 2dr. I love it.
