GPSMAP 60CSx. Santa can bring me another. It's awesome - that and a dash/windshield mount, and you're set. When you get where you can't drive any more, you can take it out of the car and use it to hike to your camping/hunting spot.

Alpine blackbird.

Thanks people!

Anyone else?

For on road, I have a tomtom that is awesome, the bluetooth hands free is much better than a head set. For offroad garmin or lowrance.

I worked at west marine selling gps's for two years....it depends if you want mapping (off road topography, city streets) or just a plain gps thats givies you coordinates...i recommend nothing but garmin....a good one to get is the Garmin Map76 Cx, CSX, or CS....but you will invest over 400 plus about 1000 dollars for maps coast to coast.....so i would recomend the garmin quest (discontinued but still available) about 400 but comes with city maps coast to coast, canada, and puerto rico all unlocked...or the garmin c330 about 450 bucks for a touchscreen but well worth it.....the main thing is though is know what options you want and or need and go from there....go to garmins website and you can choose features and search for the best gps for yourself there....its a good start anyway

Thank you very much for the reply. Thats info I'm looking for. I want it basically for wheeling and camping and those long cross country (Moab) trips. I want to be able to mark good fishing sights and trails for the most part.

Great first post. :D

Welcome to the site!

I got the Garmin c550 for trips, but would like to get another like the Map76 Cx for what Positive is looking for.

I have the Magellan RoadMate 800. It doesn't need any maps, seems to have everying it needs already loaded. I live in Philly but I took it to Phoenix, AZ and Clearwater, FL and had absolutely no problems finding places with it. It is a smaller, touch-screen version of the Hertz Neverlost, if you are familiar with that. I would like a built-in model like the Alpine, Eclipse or Pioneer but can't find any real reason at all for replacing what I already have.

I have the 7200. But, I wish Santa would install a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 in the ol' Trac. :)

The 7200 is hardwired into the vehicle's power system and is also hardwired into the AUX port of the stock head unit, so music, directions, XM, etc. play through the door speakers, etc.

Hands down, the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 all-in-one Touchscreen GPS, DVD Player, XM or Sirius Sat radio ready, and much more. This unit has it all and will fit flush into the dash opening of your Explorer's factory radio with a double din adapter kit. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Good info again. But thats a bit over kill for what I would use it for.

This is alot harder than I thought. So many GPS units and so many options. I'm just don't know????

Well,

Santa brought me a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 but I had to install it myself since his elves were just too damn tired.

I've had it installed for about 2 weeks now and the installation went really well  .

I really like it and it looks great in my 98 Exploder Sport.

Cheers,

Kevin

This is the one I'm crazy about:

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-GPSMAP..._64/102-0872182-3704135?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

I have seen this unit a few times down here in BAJA & the screen is incredible! the maps look great and are very accurate. They had the BAJA TOPO map loaded & it had every little remote road and trail marked out.

It works well mounted up on the dash or down on the center console. Soon as I get the $$$ I'm getting one...

My parents got me a Garmin Street Pilot c330 for Christmas and I love it. Voice is loud and clear, the maps and interface are easy to read and use (yes, even while on the move) and all of the maps are loaded in there for the US, not sure about Canada or anything else as I haven't looked in depth. They picked it up for about $300 on eBay.

I also have a Z-1, and hands down. The best. I love it.
