I'd say the second one you posted since the boat sliders might come up too high on the side and may have trouble gettin the doors open :D

i like the 2nd ones better as well but if i did do the 1st ones cut the mounting points at a different angle to clear the door ...

and also thought about welding them to the frame to be able to use a hi lift jack with them

I'd go with the 2nd ones as well.

2nd look awesome voted.

i would go with the 2nd one's if i had a choice.

The second ones are going to collect alot of crap off road tho' and it would be nice to have the high lift jacking point's down the side of the truck.

I was looking at the first ones myself I like the hi lift jack points that could come in very handy or if you needed to strap the side to keep from sliding

I like the first ones better. The second set has an open rear which could hang up on a rock if you're trying to back out of something whereas the first ones are closed on both ends and would more likely slide away from the obstacle.

Depends how the second are mounted if they're made for the x it'll bolt on the body I'd suspect
They should be welded to the frame

Bolted to the frame also works well. I've built and used both types.

Yeah but oe running boards mount to the body unless I saw it wrong

If they're advertised as rock sliders for an Explorer, they dang well better mount directly to the frame somehow.

You're right, the factory running boards do mount to the body and are useless offroad. Even most of the frame mount tube bars you buy aftermarket are pretty useless for body protection. I started with a set of them on my '01, and promptly tore them off out wheeling. I then went and made my own sliders, and never had a problem again :)

the 1st ones are made for a yota pickup and second ones are made for the new bodysyle 4 runner ... so both will require fab work to mount up

Ive seen both in person, since their shop is the town next to mine, and Id say go with the 1st ones. They look waaay better.
