I've been searching and just couldn't find what size I need for my first gen. I wanna get a yellow top. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think there are sizes. There's red and yellow. One size fits all. I would suggest getting a mounting bracket to hold it in though.

There are different sizes. Different lengths, widths, and heights.

there are differnt sizes indeed... mine is actually a exide optima type and it is a group size 78.... it has a 770 cca and 1000 ca ratings... and when it was in my explorer fit perfectly in its battery tray... not sure if it work with the stock hold down as it was already removed and had 2 j-hooks with a crossbar installed

Thanks. Since we both had first gens I think that's the series I need. I don't have a hold-down at all on the battery I have in there now, but I'll get one when I get my Optima. I just noticed a bunch of corrosion under my "platinum" terminals after trying to unhook my negative. I'm going for a sealed battery and never looking back.

Optima brand batteries do not come in different sizes, they're one size fits all. My Red top is much smaller then the group 78 battery that was in there so the stock battery try wasn't going to work. You can buy holddown kits, but I couldn't make one work. So I took out the battery tray, cut 4 holes in and ran nylon tie-down straps around it both ways to hold it in place. It works great, though it doesn't look as good as the $120 billet piece BlackMagic's got in his truck :)

Just ordered. $105. Not too bad of a price. And they do come in different sizes ;)

Where did you order it from? I need one too.

Thanks

Mine is a D34/78. It came with a little plastic wedge that you bolt on the side to make up for the smaller size. I didn't need any brackets other than that.

we sell the red and yellow top at advanace auto parts. the ones we sell are the same size.

Yeah, I've never seen different sizes. Their website doesn't even list any. Not doubting you Huskyfan that's just news to me :) $105 is a sweet price...I paid $110 for mine.

I bought it off eBay. There was some other site I was looking at to see what model I needed, and it had like 5 different sizes for each model battery. The length ranged from 10" to 8".

I have seen some Optimas that have a plastic piece on the base to make up for being smaller.....I saw them at Costco.

Yeah make sure you get one with the wedge piece attached. That way you can bolt it right in without worrying about getting brackets and stuff.
