i am ready to be able to control when my baby shifts... it currently shifts at about 4500-4700 with the kickdown hooked up and when i manually shift it will rev safley to 5300-5500. this is a high rpm engine and im not getting into the high rpms... i would shift manually on the column but i cant get it to shift smoothley. i want a ratchet shifter like a z-gate or equivilant... does anyone have one in there explorer and how did the install go... Tell me what you think the best shifter for an automatic 3 speed is for under 200.00

thanks a bunch

Art Carr makes the absolute best shifters for trucks IMO.

how can i get ahold of the company.... one thing i want to be sure of is that i want have to bend down to reach it.... what kind of price range for them

the Art Carr's are good, but IIRC, they're a little pricey. I"ve got a B&M Megashifter, and I love it.... easy to install and about $200 you can use it as standard or reverse pattern also.

oh also, on the art carr, I think they're website is www.artcarr.com

i was lookin at the b+m starshift... it looks pretty cool, the only thing i dont know about is shifting down.... stupid question but can you just slam it down like you do slamming it up

Vertical Gate Action
Features true vertical gate action. In the normal mode it's a straight line detent shifter, with a trigger activated reverse lock-out. Once the lever is in low, lift the trigger all the way and pull the stick back to convert to ratchet shifting. Now bang the stick forward as hard as you want for the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. You can't miss a gear! Includes a standard neutral safety switch. Cable operated and works with GM TH400, 350, 250, 200 / Ford C-4, C-6 / Chrysler 66-up Torqueflite 727, 904 / AMC 66-up Torque Command.

I dunno about the starshifter, but I know that on the megashifter you can..... it rachets down OR up..... and you can get the megashifter in a truck version (comes with a taller base)

thanks man.. ill look into that

B&M is good :P

I went with a 96 Mustang shifter for my conversion, but I wanted the OD button and a factory look.
It actually fit really well!
hahaha

I've got a B&M Megashifter as well, and it's awesome!

how hard was it to mount... im jsut concernd with the fact that i already have a tcase shifter comming up and its almost in the middle of the "tranny bump".... more to the drivers side... i think/hope there will be room on the pass side of the hump

I've got a c4 with a manual bg 1354 tcase and I had no issues with mounting. They are pretty perfect as far as spacing is concerned.
