My battery died and after I charged it up it died again because there is something running when my engine is off. It's a whining sound coming from underneath the Explorer drivers side. What is it?

I found out what it is. It's the fuel pump and the only way to stop it is by pulling the fuse. I just fueled the Explorer up today and that's when I noticed the noise. Could it be the cold weather has done something to it? Anyone know of a fix besides taking it to the mechanic?

Well I tapped the fuel pump relay under the fuel pump fuse and it stopped. Maybe it just froze. I'm still not sure exactly where the relay is but I'm guessing in the black compartment under the power distribution box where the fuses are. Can anyone tell me for sure?

Thanks,

Hey Rich, I have a 92 and my fuel pump relay is under the power dist, I believe it is the one that is right under the fuse for the fuel pump, even though they are not directly connected. there are 3 relays and they are different shapes so you can't put it in the wrong spot. I paid 14.99 at Kragan auto. Good luck. Gary
