I bought one 3rd hand through 2 other users on the forum. (BBQ Hotdogs sold it to DirtyDog who in turn sold it to me). It was on my '00 Sport (SOHC) briefly and is now on my '99 Eddie Bauer (V8). I don't have a hardcore system, but it's not bad. I used to get some dimming in my headlights when I was hitting hard, but no longer.

Celly did you have to upgrade any other wiring? or was it essentially "plug and play" just swap the old alt for the new.
I am considering one of these as well.

I have a 200 amp one but's it's not from Mr. Alternator.
Been happy. I can run my stereo, lights & stuff fine. I did upgrade the alt wire to 1 gauge & the - cable as well.

Plug and play. You can upgrade wiring but it's not necessary.

Sweet, that is good to hear. I had my alt replaced a few months ago when it died, and wanted a 200amp then, but just got a OE generic one put in at sears, and I've noticed it ain't doing so well, lights are pretty dim in cold the mornings  .

I'll save up a few bucks and get a 200amp this spring. Of course now I'll have to find out if there is a writeup on the site about installing it. Never done one myself before.

EDIT: by the way, just wanted to say I was a huge fan of your old X Celly, almost to the point of jealousy :D, and now that you have the 5.0 I'm greener than your truck with envy. :D

It's a piece of cake. Take the serp. belt off. Unplug the plug from the alternator. Take a couple bolts out, pull it off put the new one on. The hardest part is rangling the serp. belt by yourself.

what do you mean by "wrangling the serp belt"
to us newbies?

It is always prudent to do additional wiring on any alternator of 200 amps.

Run a 4 gauge ( or larger ) from the B + terminal on the alternator to the positive battery terminal. Also run a 4 gauge ground from the negative battery terminal to the frame and a 4 gauge from the frame to the motor ( I use an alternator bracket bolt for this one ).

Good luck ....

The serpetine belt "fan belt" but it drives all of the components is of course easy to get off. But getting it on for one person can be a challenge. You have to get it to stay routed around all of the pullies while holding the spring loaded tensioner pulley at a weird angle with a socket, breaker bar or something so you can get the belt around it. The belt tends to fall off the other pullies so it can be a challenge.

thanks for the clarification... so if I have my buddy help it should be alot easier then? Good thing he knows about cars cause it's pretty obvious I don't know a whole lot. I mean I know what everything is but I don't know how to replace them etc. :P

Thanks for the kudos. I loved the Sport, but the love affair I have with the Eddie goes pretty deep already. ;)

I didn't actually install my alternator either time (in my Sport of the Eddie). When I bought the alternator from DirtyDog, we met in a small town about an hour south of here (about 1/2 way from where we both live). He installed the alternator for me and he made it look pretty easy. I just watched and drank coffee. ;)

Second time a shop put it in when they were swapping out some other things from the Sport to the Eddie.
