my compressor doesnt cycle anymore.... not that i really need it with my convertible top ;)

No AC Here either. It died this summer on me. The compressor stoped cycling because freeon was low, because their is a leak somewhere, Not worth my money to get it fixed so I have just lived with it.

Mine was working until Ford fixed my blend door. When I went to pick it up it was warm so I took it back and they said it was low on coolant so they filled it and put some dye in it. It worked for about a week. I havent had a chance to bring it back yet, but that pisses me off. Everytime I take it to the dealer they cause more problems than they fix. Anyone know how long they can detect this dye for after they put it in?

When my dad bought his '94 in 1998, the A/C wasn't working. We drove around like that for 3 years before getting it fixed.

He just couldn't be bothered with fixing it, he would just drive one of the other X's with working A/C. Now it is colder than my A/C.....:(

lol, I live in Phoenix, Arizona ........ I have been driving around in the 110 Degree weather for the whole summer. I have learned to deal with it. Ohh, you might ask what is stopping me from cooling off my explorer in the Hot Arizona heat? The last time I pressurized my system, My high side pressure went over 500 PSI. Something is Clogged in the system.

Ohh well, It's a good thing I like the heat

you detect dye in your system by using a blacklight under the hood....i guess the dye will glow where the leak is...

i broke a plastic valve thing doing my bodylift and still havent fixed it so ive been ACless for a month or so

Any idea how long that dye will stick around for? It's been about 3 months since it stopped working. They will probably have to put more in (charge me for that) then tell me to come back in a week to check (charge me for that) and then fix it and break 3 other, unrelated things (charge me for that).

not too sure,
maybe someone eles on the board knows how long the dye sticks around

I've been running AC less for almost 2 years now. With the heat and humidity, I dont like it, but ya know, you get used to rollin with windows. Haha, and of course my girl is learning to deal with it. I{ just dont have the $1200 its gonna take to fix. At least not yet. Im toying with the idea of trying to fix it myself... They already told me it needs a new manifold hose and dryer and a few other things, but the compressor is ok... so we shall see...
but everytime i think of investing that much money in my Ex I would rather see it with 31's and a 3" bl... I only NEED A/C 5 months of the year... the rest i can deal with out it. Haha...

I didn't have AC until the STX, my other 2 trucks didn't have it. I still prefer opening the windows and crusing around. With our summer long drought, 100+ 2 month long heat wave, I might have used the ac twice.

My AC isn't working...I took it to a shop right near my house and they said they put dye in it and charged me around 130 bucks. I've gotta take it back sometime soon because I think it's an leak, but I'm gettin' pretty used to having all the windows down. :D

The dye "fluoresces" (glows) when struck by UV light (blacklight). Assuming that it mixes 100% with the refridgerant in the A/C system (this is a good assumption, otherwise it wouldn't work very well) then it will stick around as long as you still have any refridgerant left.

In other words, it can't escape any faster than the freon charge. The glowing of the dye is a fundamental property of that material; it doesn't wear off.

By the way, you could use a simple blacklight to try to find the leak yourself if they already added the dye.

Blacklight is also good for finding dog/cat pee stains on the carpet. Trust me on this one.

Actually you don't have to trust me..http://www.howstuffworks.com/question59.htm

I'm not sure I want to know why you are trying to find urine stains on the carpet.

AS for A/C my condensor has had a leak for the past 5 or 6 years, finally last summer it got bad enough that it wouldn't hold freon for more than a day or two, so i quit filling it. One of these days I'll fix it, but its not that crutial. I mean this is only the 3rd. vehicle I've owned with A/C (out of 20+) and I grew up in Arizona.

a little off topic

For a very practical reason: if you want to get rid of the odor, you have to find ALL of the spots. They sell blacklights in pet stores for this purpose, but any blacklight will work.

The reason for the spots was the introduction of a new cat into household with a dog. After adjustment period, they eventually have learned to co-exist and the cat seems happy if not completely well-adjusted.Dead Link Removed
