From what I have been told by a few people..

The OHV's stock headers are actually fairly free flowing and good for the stock engine, now if you were putting some complimenting mods on like a new cam or porting/polishing the heads and intake, JBA or BBK headers benefit them significantly.

Well I've ported the intake plenum, manifold and the fuel manifold myself. But I'm a little scared to port the heads myself. Headwork is kind of a taboo subject with me. I just don't want to mess them up.

I think you should go for 'em, from what it sounds like you'll be digging into your motor sooner or later, hahah

Some guys to talk to would be JD4242, Ronin8002 and Spdrcer34. At least in my opinion. Hope you get everything squared away!

I've got a spare pair of junk heads, if you want to use them for stock to see where you can grind. I haven't checked them or anything for cracks, and to be honest with you, they are probably shot, but they are good if you need some practice stock to see how far you can go....

Do you have a flow bench? If not, pretty hard to do an effective job of porting without a flow bench, you will just end up making things worse... A porting job means more than just grinding stuff off and making it look smooth.....

If you are just polishing everything and not removing anything but surface roughness, go ahead with your heads, it is easy. If you are just port matching everything, go ahead and match the heads, you have plenty of material there you can grind off to port match everything.

*Edit I actually just realized that you were posting in the other thread about having a cracked head. I guess you already have a pair you can play around with. I might look at these heads later to see if they might be good and clean them up... they are sitting under a pile of chopped up 91 EB ex.

i appreciate the offer but i still have my old heads. they make really good paper weights. if only they would stop leaking all over my desk.
but seriously i didn't think about porting the old heads thats a really good idea. thanks.

Here are some pics and a few tips on porting these heads for those of us who don't have a flow bench. I got this from a guy who used to port 4.0 heads and sell them as a business. Hopefully it will help you out:

"You have to be careful when working on the bowl areas of the exhaust ports not to cut the guide down too thinly - it's needed to transfer heat away from the valve stem. Looking down from the chamber into the exhaust bowl, you'll see that the whole guide area is one big flat shelf - it can be cut out around the guide and smoothly transitioned to the port to aid in flow. Gently blend the area under the valve seat on both intake and exhaust ports into the bowl area. Don't remove any material from the exhaust port floor - you want to take any materials off the port roof, including the bumps that are protruding down - this will leave a small hole in the roof where the valve cover bolt hole is cast and threaded, but just put some anti-seize on the bolt and you're good to go."
