Any sort of warranty on that ac work or was this a home project?

I'd say check your thermostat... but it only happens when the AC is on? That's weird if you replaced the whole system.... All the vacuum lines are connected right?

The AC system is not really connected to the cooling system in any way, though they do affect each other. I have heard people say that their engine was overheating, so they turned on the AC to 'cool it down'. That won't help, and actually will make the engine overheat further.

If your engine is overheating as a direct result of having the AC on, then your coolong system is not working properly. Either you are low on coolant, the radiator is plugged, or the system has become gummed up.

I would try flushing the cooling system -- you can do that yourself or most oil change places can do it as well.

Good luck,
Blue

Problem with Fan?

Here where I live we have a lot of problems like that, and the main problem is not a lot of flow of air thru the radiator and mainly is with engine driven fans, because the condenser in front of the radiator gets hot and if the fan clutch is not working properly the temperature will go up, so check your fan clutch or put a auxiliary fan if you let the A/C on in idle for a long time.

ok, i went to my mechanic that put the ac in, and he said it was prolly the fan clutch, because there was about 7 inches of free play when he moved the fan. i asked him if he could put in an electric fan, and aslo a new thermostat (weird problems with needle at start up) and he said prolly about a hundred bucks for everything. is theis pretty good? he changed my ac for 662. how hard is it to replace the fan clutch? and how hard to put in an electric fan, cause the fan is important, and if i screw up the wiring, or dont get it wired right, goodbye engine. thanks for help!

You are right about the wiring on the electric fan. I would change the factory clutch fan. Nothing moves more air than the factory clutch fan. When I changed my clutch fan to electric on my car it gave me nothing but overheating problems. On the otherhand, it does free up some HP.

It has nothing but a couple of bolts that's connected to the pulley. Not sure if you have to remove the fan shroud to get easy access to the bolts though. I'm not too familiar with the engine bay of the 1st Generation Explorer.

well, X-factor, im pretty good with the engine bay, remember? :D

but ya, the shroud will be pulled, because little space....what about the whole special tool ive been reading about? is that only for the fan? now this. should i go completly stock, or go aftermarket? i want the best/most amount of air entering the engine as possible. heavy duty fan clutchs? ive decided against the electric fan. thanks

The fan/clutch is threaded on to the water pump and it in requires a special wrench and tool to keep the pulley from turning.

I was able to rent the two wrenches from a local parts for free . They have a free loaner program so it cost me $00 . I was able to change the clutch without removing the shroad completely . Just unbolt the two top screws , lift up from bottom retainers and slide forward .Tthe clutch will come up between the radiator and shroad this way .

I would invest in a oem part as apposed to a parts store brand , because Theyre not the same quility and may not be any better than what you already have or can fail in a short period of time.
