Hi every one, this is my first post. I love my explorer, it has a good driving height, i get to see over the hedges! and take my family everywear in it. Sledging was good this year, she took us where few others could go! I have owned my explorer 4wd auto 1999 for nearly three years now, in which time i have had my transfer case (and gear box rebuilt x 2). Nearly a year on and the high and low 4wd lights began flashing again. I spent much time reading throught the existing threads, disconected the baterry for 30mins Etc. Problem is that althought the lights stopped flashing it feels like i am still in high 4wd , and, when i turn to the left or right the vehicle judders and feels like something is going to snap. Low 4wd engages and there is an audible sound when i change to high, but no sound when i change back to auto. I have spent a lot of hard earned cash so far and am struggling to justify the seemingly endless expense (mostly down to the lack of knowledge of 4 wheel drive mechanics). Any body experienced anything similar or know what the problem is likely to be? This is a wonderful resource and i am amazed by the enthusiasm of your members and knowledge they share.
Took out the rear prop, still driving as in 4wd. Put it back and took out the front prop-driving okay now! I assume this means that the transfer box is a gonner. Can any body help, please?
