88 Ranger XLT
Hi guys name is Lou new to the forum, glad I found it.

I got an 88 Ranger XLT 2.9 2wd. Picked it up for a song ($300) 180k but i liked it...what can I say. Well here I am 10months later it now has 253K two weeks ago I cracked a head, got that taken care of now the tranny is going out. It's an A4LD any way found a tranny out of an 87 Bronco2 it's a 2wd also but has dummy transfer case.

Well getting ready to do the swap and am now getting conflicting info.....ect.

My question once I remove the transfer case for the 87 bronco's tranny it's A4LD too, everything looks good so far, is the rear shaft going to be to short?

It's my work truck and only one at this time.....told you running small business and now a days I think it's getting smaller. So I'm forced to use as is with current tranny till Friday.

Isn't life fun?

The tranny won't work unless you have the tail shaft housing and output shaft from the 2wd Ranger installed. The BII tranny will bolt directly into a 4wd, but not a 2wd.

Damn...........

Housing doesn't seem to be an issue. The output shaft ...... how fun are those to play with?

I am currently working on a 4x2 to 4x4 conversion with a 4.0 A4LD. From what I have seen, and you can check my thread about halfway down there is picture with the only difference from a 4x4 to 4x2 is the NOT the output shaft but merely the housing.

Messing with the output shaft does not look like fun.

the 4x4 shaft is longer.

Ummm... the tranny (expert) I talked to told me the 4X4 shaft would be shorter.

So now I sit with a Fwd tranny I'm not using and a 2wd tranny that's going out.

I guess more research on my half would had saved some $$.
