I have a 91 Explorer and in 2010 had a transmission job done by a "national chain" place and have had problems with it ever since. Since then it has been in the shop about every 6-8 months for some transmissiion related problem. I did change mechanics in 2012, but continue to have problems.
Newest problem, I had the flywheel replaced in Feburary of 2013. In late July, it started making noise which was described to me as "the connecting rod or bearings". Last week, the car died in the driveway with a loud metal grinding and clunk noise. The starter seemed to be the problem, but when I removed it and looked into the cavity, I found 2 deformed pieces of flat stock and looked at the flywheel, which had a quarter size piece of metal missing and a crack about 2-3 inches long.Obviously, it's going back again. Is there anything I should ask the mechanic to look for?
Thanks!!!
