Why is the 5.0 so slow?

What do you you mean there is nothing for modular motors? There's plenty of parts out there you can make a +2000hp engine if you wanted.

Your friends Hemi came with 345hp versus the F150 which had 300hp. So I'd say it makes since why the F150 was slower than the Hemi.

Maybe it's were you live, but my 4.6 has plenty of pep off the line and I've taken down a very well modded 5.0 Mountaineer at the drag strip plenty of times.

The 4.6 is ok if you want a base engine truck to do mild towing. But maybe it's because I also have a 5.4 truck. I can't stand my 4.6 truck, the 5.4 is much nicer to drive in all aspects, not to mention it gets the same or better gas mileage. My old 4.6 was the same way, gutless.

I towed 7500 lbs with my 4.6 truck once, never again. I'll always use the 5.4 for any towing.

If you are comparing the 4.6 in the F150 to the 5.4, I agree with you. My cousin had a 1999 RCSB 4.6 F150 4x4 and it was a dog compared to my Explorer. My father-in-law has an '07 F150 5.4 and it has very good low-end tq and if I remember correctly, that is something Ford bragged about.

However, the 4.6 2V in the Explorer does a fine job for me. I only tow two quads and don't even notice them back there. I will be towing an MG in the next day or two, so I'll get a better idea on what a decent load is like.

In an explorer and a mustang it does ok. But yeah my 98 150 non pi 5.4 mind you, peaks it's torque of 330 ft lbs at 2k rpm. Its awesome even just for daily driving. The thing is damn snappy for a 5300 lb truck. But the 4.6 just peaks too high. Both my 98 and two 99 4.6s were ok but you really had to rev them to get into the power band.
