99 Mountaineer
Hey guys, thanks for reading this. I'll start off by saying I used to have a 98 Mounty, basic package, 5.0 awd, it was real peppy, real good throttle response, even at hwy speeds it didnt take much to really get going.

Now I have a 99 Mounty, 5.0 awd, with whats called the "Monterey Package" (lots of options). This vehicle seems to just be really slow, and I cant figure out why. It takes me close to 15 secs. to go from 0-60, which I think is kind of high. And if I'm already at hwy speeds and want to pass someone, I'd better have plenty of room, unless I punch the pedal to the floor, then it will take off good, but I dont feel I should have to do that. I dont have any CEL's, it runs great, I get around 19-20 mpg hwy its just slow and has been since I've owned it. And when I got it, it only had 67,x.. miles.

Heres a list of what I've done since I've had it:
-new plugs & wires
-new pcv valve (and seafoamed it)
-new MAF sensor
-cleaned throttle body & IAC
-new throttle position sensor
-MAC air intake system
-new fuel pump, filter, pressure regulator
-water pump
-2 bottles of Chevron Techron in the tank

Any ideas would help. I dont want to keep pumping unnecessecary money into it. Thanks for reading this.

How would I be able to tell if my cats are clogged. I'm not a real great mechanic, but I can do the easy stuff. Are they hard to change? how many are there, 2?

do u have the same gear set as ur older trk did ??
plenty of things u can do to mod ur v-8 im sure other can help u better then me im still running my 6
plenty of info here get a chip from bamma performance
style maf cheak to see if ur throttle cable has any sloop in it gd luck :)

Before modding for power by going with a chip or other performance mods I would suggest getting whatever problem your X may be having taken care of first. Otherwise tossing a chip on it is like putting a band-aide on a crack in the Hoover dam. :D

Sounds like a blocked catalytic converter to me too. You can take it to a muffler shop and have them check exhaust pressure. They'll drill a small hole in the exhaust before the cat, attach a pressure gauge to check it, then weld up the hole when they're done. Takes a few minutes to check and should be cheap. It's been a while so I'm not sure what they'd charge now. Maybe $40-$60?

Good luck.
