Why not black lights instead of colored neons?

Yes there are some...Since it's near the blue end of the spectrum. HOWEVER it is not the same as installing a UV light.

For those of you who have had the pleasure of UV light exposure of more than 20 seconds directly you'll know what a good feeling it is when you wake up late at night and wonder why your eyes feel like sand had been dumped in them...Then it's time to get your eyes numb at the hospital...always a fun experience.

Here is a clip from a website:

The word "black light" is the popular name for near-ultraviolet radiant energy, which falls just outside the visible spectrum. When the light hits fluorescent materials, it makes them "fluoresce" or emit visible light. What actually occurs is a conversion of energy. The black light, which is invisible, will hit a fluorescent surface and is absorbed and re-radiated at a longer wavelengths in the visibility range of the human eye.

Black light makes possible - beautiful, unusual and dramatic effects. It may be used in a great many ways for decorative and artistic purposes, for advertising and displays. Ultra violet light is used in the theater, by artists, in insepection departments for quality control of manufactured parts and raw materials, for military purposes, and for many industrial applications too numerous to mention.

Black light (UV lamps) can be used in conjunction with fluorescent material or phosphorescent materials. The fluorescent materials re-radiate the energy while the black light is on it while phosphorescent material will re-emit light long after the black light is out. Each material, the fluorescent and phosphorescent, has a particular purpose and effect. A combination of the two could produce even more incredible effects and create new applications not thought of yet.

ok cool.... so if i leave my black light dome light on while sleeping as a nitelight, i wont wake up with a sunburn!

Well I have already paid for my Black Light underbody kit and I am very excited to see how it looks. Since there seems to be a big Hoop-La over this topic I will do a full write up on the kit from box to install, with tons of pics. Then we will know how quality and how much light these give off.

lowglow = liteglow, oh well streetglow is better, i've seen the hook up of a lite glow set. wow ridiculous i must add, they have a type of speaker wire (red and black for each tube) which you have to run to the transformer which has a red and black hole with the smallest DAMN FLAT HEAD U COLD POSSIBLY GET to screw the damn wires into and it is frustrating to get them to stay in half of the time. the quality, maybe the same? streetglow =10x easier to hook up and the quality will more than likely last unlike liteglow, my friend broke a liteglow tube( not the outside but the actually neon itself) by juss taking it out of the package.... [/B]

well sounds like your friend is REALLY careless, I've had lowglow for 4 years, tube breakage=2 rear, 1 front. the only reason tubes have been broken is because of carelessness because of my dealership and installation facilities, I've gone through 3 transformers, 2 of them because of tube breakage that I didn't know and stressed the transformer, another was cos of a wiring problem (my fault) aside form that.. 4 years man, whos unreliable?

by the way, from what I've seen on their sites lglow/liteglow products are made here in america by hand. If you look at the contrsuction of the tubes you can see this. Who knows where streetglow is made.. all I know is its a huge favorite with the ricers so you can take a wild guess. I run streetglow tubes inside the car, the blue is the same, the intensity is equal as best as I can tell.

I dont recall anything about any red/black speaker wires.. all my wires for my neon is insulated coaxial looking wire, and there was no flathead either, the wires just end, its your responsibility to find a way to hook it together. Lowglows kits from what I've seen from bmxboy's install are just as easy to install as anything else, you just run the wires in a series around the car placing the tubes where you want them, hook the transformer to a switch fuse and battery and you're good to go.

If its streetglow interior wires you're speaking of.. the streetglow minis have a plug on the end much like that of a power cord for little portable things like CD players and such, I have not worked with lowglow interior neon because it is no longer avalible locally, the dealer that sold them had a fire that toasted the place.. they didn't re-open.

UV

Also, blacklights do not emit much UV because they are relatively low energy compared to UV bulbs, which are usually a higher voltage. All lights emit some UV, but at lower voltages, they are too weak to penetrate the glass much.

I like the idea of blacklights, but thre isn't much they would make "bright" in the truck. For blacklight to fluoresce, it has to hit something fluorescent, which means it has to be made of phosphorous. Organic materials, such as cotton, contain phosphorous naturally, and would show up. THerefore, it would seem that specks of dust and whit T-shirts would show up, but not much else (could look really cool tho).

Anyone tried this?

I've seen black light UB's once......they are bad ass bro. They are unique, and when you drive over a white line or reflective strip, it just like BAM starts glowing...also, its only like a dark purple glow that is emiited.

I had 3 black lights in my car (plenty bright for front and middle seats)

As with the Street Glow and liteglow battle, i'll just let ya'll decide for yourself...

For inside lights, I was thinking of just buying light holders from HomeDepot, which can take the 4' black bulbs. Then just install them on the inside, where the roof lining meets the plastic panels. Then just find some kind of light cover for it.

I'm interested to see how the UB kit looks

hey bmxboy, nice to see that ur in cali now (or maybe you always were..)im in the valley man, how you like pepperdine, nice school and nice views man!

insomniac: you ever get in trouble for having the blue turn signals? I have a '95 limited, and was going to keep the side turn signal orange, while replacing the rest with either super whites or blues... I wanted to change them all, but I figured if I had atleast one that was orange I couldn't get in trouble.

Blue anything on a car/truck/van/suv is not a good idea. As mentioned earlier in this post, it is only good for drawing attention to yourself from that one officer who will ticket you for the blue lights.

Technically they can only be used to demo the product or show off the car in a private parking lot or where ever. Street use is not allowed.

It also makes other drivers nervous when they see flashing or blinking blue lights. You also have to remember that some people do not like the police and will do anything to prevent getting pulled over. I used to work for the City of Crestwood. I got to drive one of the unmarked police cars. Sure it was fun having the wig-wag lights, siren etc...But it could have ended my job too. The lieutenant that I shared the car with told me that, under no circumstances should I activate any of the lights or put that red/blue light box on the dashboard or I COULD risk getting shot at....You never know... Then I found the 12ga tied to the underside of the trunk lid....hehe...

Overall, you CAN have whatever you want on the car...Just don't make any right or left turns in your case using the signal.

AAAH that wing has to go, it ruins that car.. honestlyu why does he have a parking garage on the back of his car?

just IMO.. dont get in some debate about that with me please lol

well... who said underbody neon blinks or flashes? the only person I've seen with that is bmxboy.. (damn nice job too) My neon is stagnant, its on.. and its on every singal night. Everyone here has neon man.. or at least those windsheild LEDs.. if you think blue underbody lights is a cop.. you can't see and souldn't be driving.

now there was a guy here that had an X.. he put white strobes in his headlights and boughta megaphone and would turn on the strobes and yell "this is the police, pull over" or something along those lines as ajoke back in HS.. he quit when he got in some DEEEP trouble when the person he flashed was an unmarked cop...

its all in where/what you do I suppose, I mean, if you're doing what he did, or if you're driving crazy-like with neon on, or your neon flashes, yer probablly going to get an additional fine for having them on top of what you get pulled for, but I think if you stay in a good neighborhood and dont do anything crazy, you should probablly be ok.

btw, if you have something like neon, you will eventually try to drive down the road with it.. its like having nitrous.. eventually you will use it on the street, even if its for the track only..

That wing is for tight parking spaces. You use it like you use a lawnmower handle or shopping cart... :)

(Finally got my 3/4" MDF for my sub) Couldn't get to home depot any other time this week. Which by the way was up ON TOP 15 feet above the floor. I asked one of the guys to get it down with a forklift. (SIGH!!, WELL, I'll need a spotter and I'll have to get a forklift!)

It should be...(Hi, may I help you?) NOT (Hi, I kinda don't want to help, but if you beg...)

Sorry to get off the subject of exterior lighting... (Anyone remember disco floors?) That would look pretty funny in the cargo area.

""Shake your groove thing, shake your groove thing""

""Ah, ah, ah, ahh, staying alive...staying alive...ah, ah, ah..etc""

Whatever..
