Widow Lady Needs Some Expert Advice, Please?

Update to you wonderful gentlemen! :-)

Just drove my Explorer out a country road, came to a few stops, revved it up, let it idle, and came home after two miles. It drove fine for the female friend I had drive it.

The MAS Sensor wires were shiney silver when box was opened up. Sprayed them anyway. Also sprayed electrical connector on MAS.

Two gallons of gas from my storage was added to tank. No gas additive yet but will act on that advice after I rest a little.

Gasoline tank cap, radiator, overflow, oil dip stick, hoses -- all fine.

Did the problem just disappear? Or is it going to raise its head when I hit the road, alone, in the middle of no-where country. Stay tuned?

BTW, this is an aerial of where I live, which makes me wonder about staying here as a widow now... I love it but I have to learn to be handier or become far richer! Love you guys for helping me..

Anyone want to bet the problem is not gone?

Looks like you live next to a nice golf course. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome, and these members here will help you figure anything out. We like to help.

Do the fuel filter unless you have a record of it being done recently. That is a very important item some people forget about, and the engine will shut down if it gets fouled/filled enough.

Everything being suggested is probably high on any real mechanics list to do. Any records become critical whenever there is an issue. You want to go through the obvious tune-up items which are the oldest. So if you don't know how old an item is, you have to assume it's old enough to change, if it's suggested.

The windows should not be able to be pulled up or down. The window motor controls that, so if it moves manually, then the motor assembly has a problem. Those have a gear drive made of five main plastic components. Those are intended to take any abuse and wear, so the motors virtually never wear out. There are three small plastic pucks inside that gear drive, which do wear out as the weakest links. At this age it's a good bet that those are destroyed now. The parts stores all carry a kit with those, in the HELP section. Most window problems will require replacing at least those three pucks. So plan to get the window motor assembly out of that door, and take the cover off of the drive section(one bolt). Inside you can quickly clean it out and see which parts are damaged. The pucks will run about $8, the group of gears and the center steel piece is just over $20.

There are lots of threads here that explain just about anything you could need to learn or see. Search for a while on your truck's issues, you'll find a lot. Regards, night.
