I parked next to my office where I have wifi, i linked to it, connected to it, now what :)

I was hoping there would be a browser and a way to actually use it on the internet but evidently not.

I guess the point of being able to connect to wifi is traffic and so on but I dont know how that would work either.

It would be so cool if we could browse on google on mysync...

Agreed. When I'm tinkering in my garage, it'd be nice to kink up.

Alas...

Yes I agree .....what's the use?......when I asked those in the know at Ford I was told it's for future functionality like a Browser....

Or how about letting us do Over The Air upgrades through WiFi.

FORD - please make it so we can Google businesses and we can then set them as the destination.

1. Press Voice button
2. ME: "Google Bestbuy"
3. List of Bestbuys appears on screen
4. HER: "Please select a line number."
5. ME: "2"
6. HER: "Would you like to set this as your destination?"
7. ME: "Yes"
8. HER: "Setting as destination"

What a dream that would be...

Sadly, there is no internet connectivity. It's just a wifi router and that is all. The car does NOT interact with the internet in any way, no matter how you may have it connected through the wifi hotspot feature.

I was pretty miffed at this, as it's the obvious way to get info to the car. Instead, you're forced to receive info through the Sirius satellite interface, which is spotty at best. This is why you have to wait long periods for weather and gas prices to show up, if even at all.

An actual internet connection could really solve a lot of problems, but they have decided not to use this functionality to date. Instead, you are forced to keep buying new map update cards which carry all of your POI info on them, along with maps that can be out of date the day they are released.

No live updating with this system, unlike an iphone app like MotionX Drive, which gets it's map and poi info directly from the internet and is constantly updated.

I really wish they would have used iOS as the operating system on this vehicle and allowed for third party apps to be installed.

map cards, how often do i need to buy them and where do i buy them and how much?

The SD card delivered with the 11 Ex is 18-24 month out of date from the start.

As of a few weeks ago there was still no newer card out.

Newer Geo data exists but there is no new card out for SYNC MFT.

Check the NavTeq website.

For all the issues we have had I think the next update of map data should be complimentary for 11 Ex buyers. LOL!

Randys1, tdktrader & Loganfilm, those are ideas that would be perfect to submit to www.TheFordStory.com! After you submit the idea, others can rate it and comment with their own thoughts/suggestions!

Sgt1411 is right: Ford updates maps once a year (this is a common industry practice). Shortly after we compile a map for new model year vehicle launches, the new maps become available. There are discussions on how map updates will be provided in the future.

please feel free to visit the NAVTEQ website ( www.Navigation.com ) or call 1-866-462-8837.

Cory, I hate to correct you. Navteq is not the map provider for the Explorer. Our maps come from a company called Telenav.

Please confirm.

The TeleNav Services utilizes data licensed to TeleNav by NAVTEQ Corporation ("NAVTEQ").

Source: http://www.telenav.com/legal/terms-of-use.html (you will need to do a search on page to find it, but it is not that far down.)

My friend just got an update for his 2010 Civic. Honda uses Navteq as well so hopefully they will be releasing new maps for other guys, along with the Ex, as well.

Navteq is horrible with supplying updates for third parties. You would think that if they just released new map data for one car, that the same map data can be released for all cars that use NAVTEQ maps.

I think Garmin should get into the OEM navigation business.

really garmin, you thought chrysler was the way to go????? that would have been great for ford in the future....... anyone notice how fast he was ably to type the numbers and letter in on the nav??? that would have taken me 7 minutes to do!!! (sigh)

I verified that TeleNav (www.TeleNav.com/products ) provides updates for MyTouch and NavTeq provides updates for non-MyTouch systems. Thanks again for pointing that out!

i still dont understand with all this tch our nav doesnt include real time traffic info where available when estimating the time it will take you to get there

i thought you could buy garmin and others, at costco, fire em up and they do it, right? how hard can it be, just connected to satellite

Randy:

That's why I don't bother with the nav system . I use the Garmin when needed.
