The title says it, Will I have any trouble putting the rims from a 03 EXPLORER ON A 97 EXPLORER? Has anyone ever tried it? I know the bolt pattern is the same but is the center hole also?

Thanks. I found the the bolt pattern sticky chart and it says they will. Thanks again.

It's not just the bolt pattern which will decipher whether or not these wheels will fit. I'm not 100% as I don't know which wheels you're talking about specifically but the gen 2 expo's ran a low 12mm offset. The newer explorers/aviators/etc. ran a high offset in the 40's. You'll definitely need wheels spacers if that's the case. I can help you out more if I knew which wheels you were talking about.

I'm not sure what the wheel is called or the part # but vehicle bolt pattern.com says that 91 and up explorer, sport, ranger, and sport trac all have the same pattern, offset, and center bore. The ones i'm thinking about getting are from a 03, the alloy 16" ones.

I have a pic of the wheels but I dont Know how to put it on here.

The bolt pattern will work which is 5x114.3 or 5x4.5 whichever you prefer, I'm sure the hub bore will work as well, I think the 97 expo was something like 70.4 can't remember. I'm just questioning the offset. I sent you a PM.

I just sent you a pic by Email

44mm offset on the wheels im looking at putting on, so what size spacers will i need?

I see it like this, assuming your current wheels are 15 x 7 with a 12 mm offset and you're looking to run a 16x7 with a 44 mm offset you need to make up 32MM worth of difference to have the wheels sit where they are right now.

To convert to inches, I believe it's 25.4MM to inch so 32/25.4 = Roughly an inch and a quarter spacer. You're going to need wheel adapters and I advise looking into longer wheel studs.

I believe I may still have a set of adapters I could sell you if you're still interested.

You're going to need a 5x4.5 to 5x4.5 1.25" wheel adapter.

How much do you want for the addapters? and to ship them?

I'm gonna check around and see if I can find some other rims and tires tonight, If I dont find anything I like and you can find them,
I will take them. I'll post tomo what I find. Thanks for all the info.

Sounds good, I'll check to see if they're in my garage. Your welcome

I dident see anything that looked like a good deal so if you find the adaptors I would like to buy them from you. just let me know how you would like me to pay you. Thanks again for all the help.

Unless you are getting an awesome deal on those not quite fitting rims, why not just wait and get something that fits? changing wheel studs is a PITA if I remember correctly

The reason I am even considering doing it is for the deal. My friend works at a auto recycler and the 03 just got new tires put on and on the way home got rear ended, I was looking for some tires so he let me know about these. I am getting the new tires and the rims for $150. if they dont work I can get my money back. I dont see a reason to have to put new studs on unless you know something I dont? I should be getting them next weekend and I wanted to see if anyone knew of any problems I might run into befor I tryed?

Post #10 suggests you get 1.25" spacers. They go between the hub and the wheel and basically take up space on your wheel stud. So basically your lug nut has much less stud to screw onto.

I dont think the studs will be to bad to replace, I did them on my old 91 ex many years ago, It's Not the toughest job I'v done. But your rite, its not a fun one. Dont spacers have deep lug nut holes to fit with factory studs and nuts? If I do need longer studs, do you know what lenth I should get?switching rims is one thing I have just never done.
