Will A C-6 Fit Into A '91?

I have a '91 Explorer, with a 5 spedd MTX that decided it doesn't want to work anymore. (well, except for 4th gear). I have a spare C-6 that cam out of an '88 F-150. Will this swap work? What's involved?

With enough $$, ANYTHING will fit.

With that said.....

The C-6 is the 3spd Heavy Duty Transmission. Internals are a bit on the heavy side. The C-6 will rob more Torque (which in turn leads to a HP loss) from that V-6 than a C-4 or AOD.

Similar debates are ongoing in the GM camps.....TH-350 or 400, and 200-4R or 700-R4. The 350 is a weaker design than the 400, but the parasitic loss in the 350 is also lessened. Exact same case with the OD transmissions.

You want a C5/C4 not a C6, C6 is for the V8 engine.....

For the reasons as above? I'm not looking for what the best option is, just wanted to know how much trouble it would be to use the C-6, because I HAVE a C-6. (unless I can get a trade somewhere). This C-6 came from the factory in a 6 cyl. truck, although I'm sure the 300 inline produces a lot more torque than the V-6 in our X's.

the C6 will not bolt up to your OHV 4.0L, so I have no idea how you would put it in the truck UNLESS you also convert to a V8 at the same time.
The 300 I-6 will not fit under the hood of a Gen I explorer, trust me it has been talked about, attempted, and never done as far as I know.

Not 100% true..... It's not really an explorer, but it is an I6 under a 1st gen hood:
