I moved here a couple of weeks ago with my truck from B.C Canada. In B.C they have something like the smog check called Air Care and my truck hasn't had any problems with that before.

I was wondering if my X would pass the California smog check?

What kind of things can I do to prepare the truck for the smog check?

Thanks for the help

The only way to know is to get the smog check. they will give you a print out of what problem areas you may have on your truck if it doesn't pass. Ask around for a reputable smog check station in your area.

You might find a willing place to test the vehicle first :P I found one by me when I bought a van that belched smoke hehe.

Yeah, ask for a pre-test at a smog station. It's the same as a regular test, only they don't send the info to the DMV. If you have no idea how your truck will do, you don't want to risk being tagged as a gross polluter!

Your best bet is to educate yourself. Call the DMV and get the facts for your situation, find a smog tech that will answer some questions, etc.

Goodluck w/ the DMV. Here in LA it sucks. I belong to AAA and they do almost every DMV transaction except DL stuff.
Title transfer,registration etc.
MC, trailer,boats etc.
It's worth the 45.00 just to not deal with the DMV and you get all those maps:)
They can access what you need faster than the DMV folks.

Whoa, are you saying you go to the AAA office to do DMV business??? I joined last year, and must have missed that in the brochure! I gotta look into that!

Haha, that's the reason that most people join besides the roadside ass't. You can do just about anything that is straightfoward DMV wise with them. It has to be a very sure transaction though, any question on anything and they won't do it.

How close were you to failing Aircare? Cali has stronger laws I believe...

Rnagerx,
yes AAA rocks with the DMV ****. Even when something is "off" as oswap says they are a lot friendlier to deal with. They will tell you what you need ,exactly, to get the transaction done.
car registration 10min.
I had my reg. sticker swiped and they gave me a new one like that.(snap):0
I think they even offer a smog check before you need to get it done so you know what needs to be done w/o having to send in the info to Sac.
They offer a lot of over all car inspections.

I cant WAIT!!!!

I am moving to southern Cali in 3 weeks, with my BII.
We shall see what they say when I pull up.......

My 88 BII has a 93 4.0L engine, headers, MAF, KKM intake, high flow cat and exhaust

I will be installing the airbox before I go for smog but this should be interesting..............
