I did a quick search, and it seems that the latest generation explorers have a different offset. Has anyone tried mounting these on an earlier generation explorer?

Also, is the hub bore large enough?

TIA,

If the 3rd gen have a 5 x 4 1/2" bolt pattern then they will fit.

Same bolt pattern, different offset. Those wheels will be inboard more than 2nd gen. offset wheels. I have a 2003 17" wheel as a spare. It barely clears, sits inboard more than I'd like, but it's okay for me as a spare. Compare the offset, usually printed on the back of the rim, like "44ET", which means 44mm. The difference is how much inboard it will be. You may be able to use 1/4" spacers(6.35mm) to help. Good luck,
