will not come out of park

wondering if anybody has any suggestions on a 2000 explore not wanting to come out of park with engine running...if engine is off and key in on postion the shift handle works fine...only happens when running and i do have brake lights

Welcome to this forum! There is a TSB for the interlock solenoid in the column. I saw it posted in another thread.

may have been my post.

To continue the thread, I still have that problem and no brake lights. Is that a solenoid or what? I have rear lights and everything, just no brake lights
 












That sounds like a bad brake switch.

Next question is, where and how do i fix it.

Any link to a manual or how to with pics? I know nothing about explorers. Not really a gear head either, an amatuer is the best word i suppose
 




































This switch is located behind the arm of the brake pedal. It has 2 wires.

CORRECTION: It has 5 wires. one pair feed one circuit, and IIRC, two of the others feed the other two circuits connected to it.

It also has two separate inputs... Check the fuses first...
