will not idle

I have '00 explorer that will not idle. She starts immediately but as soon as I let off the gas she dies as if I turned off the key. As long as I am holding the gas just enough to get a couple hundred rpm she is smooth and silent. I have had this for 2 days now. I can only drive with 2 feet for so long.

Pardon my ignorance but what is a MAF and IAC?

MAF=Mass Air Flow Sensor
IAC=Idle Air Control Valve

A dirty MAF or IAC are common problems that are detrimental to maintaining proper idle. Both are relatively easy to remove, clean and reinstall. Do a search on this forum using MAF or IAC or go over to this link which discusses a repair of the IAC in detail.

Happened to me once and it ended up being a vacuum line had popped off it wouldn't idle and cruise control didn't work. Just something you might investigate especially if your cruise control is working as well.

Maybe the EGR valve. I had a dakota that had it's EGR (exhaust gas return) valve get stuck open. It caused the engine to die without throttle, but worked fine with your foot on the gas.

I pulled the IAC and cleaned it with Brakleen and a toothbrush and now she runs like a champ again. I appreciate all your help.
