I have custom flowmaster exhaust from the cats back, a Diablo Chip, and am gonna hook up a Volant Intake. SO with these modifications, I wanna now get a bigger MAF.... what kind should I buy? SOme people have said to stay away from the Granatelli.... what do u think? Where do I purchase the Pro-Flo,... I have read this is the best one. What about the one on the Explorer Express website? What size should I purchase? Is a 70mm mass air sensor (The one they sell on Explorer Express) to large for SOHC? With my mod's that I have already done, i am hoping i will see some more improvement with the larger MAF. What do u think. Thanks ALOT!

dont really know the answer to your question but you could look for a company called Vanir Tech. they deal with the V6. im looking at getting some stuff from there. try a surch on dogpile or something of that nature.

Which one...?

THat is awesome.... but now i gotta know which one to get for the V6 SOHC with the mod's i listed.... thANx 4 the help guyz

The Pro-Flow MAM used to be marketed with their name on it. I had a Pro-Flow on my '94 4.0L Ranger about 7 years ago. Now when I go to their web-site it lists Pro-M. I believe they are one in the same. Try going to http://www.pro-flow.com/ if you want one.

I don't see what all the excitement is about for the larger MAM. I know it didn't change my 1/4 mile times a bit on my 4.0L Ranger. Even going by Pro-Flow's own sizing chart (Dead Link Removed) has a 55mm MAM capable of supplying enough air for a 320 HP engine. I know the SOHC's MAM is larger than 55mm. Here's the chart:

Mass Air Flow Meter Sizing

Meter Diameter, Maximum Recommended Horsepower

55mm, 320
70mm, 380
80mm, 485
75mm Bullet, 600
77mm Pro M, 700
80mm Pro M, 800
83mm Pro M, 900
92mm Pro M, 1000
117mm Pro M, 1500
209mm Pro M, 2000

i sell the pro-flow / pro-m meters. for your truck you should get a 75 bullet style that will work well. i have used that size on numrous rangers.

BLK MK8

How much do u charge? Im looking to hook one up so if u have a good price i may be interested.

i have not check on a price in a while so i will have to get back to you in a day or so because i know there pricing has changed ok. if you want drop me a line ok.

:us: I installed the Granatelli MAF on my 96' and have had good performance from the unit. Dyno testing showed an increase of about 12 HP compared to the stock MAF. :redexp:

I heard there bad?

I heard that Granatelli's are bad. Whats the deal? What is wrong with the Granatelli's then? 12 HP on the DYNO is alot... just what im looking for in fact.

Planning new mod, I want a Flowmaster and a chip. Is a larger MAF needed/possible upgrade what are the criteria. In otherwards I am an idiot to this area. Take it slow and explain

OK

From what I hear, the MAF opens up the amount of air flow your engine recieves by creating a larger opening at its place in the intake tube or whatever. I have also been told that BEFORE you put an MAF on, make sure you upgrade your exhaust and intake, and even maybe chip... this make sense becaues soo you have opened up your MAF now but without an intake, what would the point of having a larger area for the air to pass through.... and without a freed up exhaust, how is the exra air gonna leave?

Will a Saleen 70mm MAS for the V8 work on a SOHC?

nope.

the programming of the mas is setup for each individual engine. one for a v8 would cause problems in your 6 cylinder. it would trip the check engine light and cause the engine to act like it has no mas, which is the engine's way of making sure it doesn't stall. all you'll get out of it is less power and horrible mpg. :( sorry

eric

alright well if anyone is interested there is one on ebay for $25. Dead Link Removed

What is the stock size of the MAF on the 2000 XLT V8 5.0L? Ne one knows it would be great...

From what I've heard the one our truck comes with is fine and adding a bigger and better one won't do anything. Its better to spend the cash on a TB or Chip.

I have this idea....

I read somewhere on here < thread titled "Masss Air Trick"> a member got a 5.0 MAf from a Mustang and put it on his explorer and saw nice gains. While the electronics will not mesh, what about putting the MAF electronics onto a larger MAF body-shell. Ideally, this will tell the engine there is X amount of air coming into the mix, but in reality there would be mabe 15-20% more? <not an exact figure>. I think the guy from this original thread tried this with some success, but nobody since has. I got a 70mm MAF from a 94 Cobra without the electronics to try it out this theory, but haven't had the chance as of yet to install it.
Just an idea. Any feedback?

ahhh... i dont know much about how they work, but if you are telling it that you are getting X amount of air but are really getting Y amount of air its gonna run like crap. Wont that mess with the air/fuel ratio?
