Winch issues

I actually have a front receiver that I will be removing when I go to mount a winch. The receiver is pretty close to flush when nothing is installed in it. I think it is made by Curt. Its a 2" and I think it is class IV or V. Should work pretty good for a receiver mounted winch. I'll sell it to you for 70%+shipping or 70% of the total price shipped to you of the lowest price you can send me a link for it. I'm probably going to get a winch in the next month or 2 so it should be available pretty soon. Let me know.

BTW, be careful what you say here....... there are turdles listening in ;)

Yeah that's the one I was looking at. Ill look into pricing and let you know via pm. If I forget and you go to remove it will you let me know? Also.....and I'm sure this is dumb.....what's a turdle? I searched it and didn't find anything. Sorry for being such a fng

I'll let you know when I plan to pull it. Should be pretty soon since I had a conversation with the wife last night about buying a winch and she was wondering why it hadn't already been bought.

A Turdle is a mythical creature that patrolls this forum giving good advice to all. He looks out for the unaware and tries his best to keep us all on the right track. He is particularly known for his powdercoating skills, although his taste in color can sometimes be a little strange:

Sounds like the right kind of wife to have! Thanks for the info on the turdle Haha. Sounds good to me.

So..... I want to rear mount the winch but the battery is obviously at the front and a 15 foot length of battery leads is 75$. Any ideas on how to get power back there?

Use the frame rail for ground, that nearly cuts your wire use in half. Make sure to use star washers between the frame and the ring lugs on the ground wire.

You could use this an an excuse to run a second battery at the back of the rig. All you would need to run from the front to the back is an 8 Ga. or 6 Ga. wire for charging the second battery. This idea also requires you to make a decision on how you are going to charge the second battery though. Lots of debate on how that should be done. The 2 most popular ideas are to use a battery isolator. The other (the way I prefer) is to use a solinoid to connect the 2 batteries when the motor is running.

I solved it. The winch remains unplugged while back there. Then I have leads that go from the posotive negative on the winch all the way to the battery on the side of the truck. Instead of shelling out a fortune on wire, I spent 30 bucks on 20 foot jumper cables and cut the clamps off and put the I holes on to bolt on to winch and battery. Not bad and the wires don't get hot even when pulling out my roomate In his dodge :)
