The driver's side window on my 98 explorer has come off the plastic guides/clips on the window regulator rail (they are plastic correct?, I'm just going from memory and I remember them being white and plastic looking). I guess the adhesive that attaches the plastic clips to the window finally just wore out. I tried fixing this once using some heavy duty sealant supposedly used to seal windshields that I got from NAPA (it was black tarry gunk and cost $12 bucks for a tube). Scraped all the old adhesive off the window and plastic clips, cleaned with rubbing alcohol and applied the new sealant. Let it fix for 2 days.
The window worked fine after that for about 2 months then the new adhesive sort of skinned over and gave way as well
So now I'm back to square one. Anyone know of a better way to seal the windows back to the clips... Better sealant out there ( ie something comparable to the stuff ford uses in the factory), or another way altogether? I tried searching the site for this question but was unable to find anything so if anyone has the link or ideas I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
BTW The dealership told me I would need a new window as they come with the clips already attached. Something like $650 with labor. Yeah Right. There has to be another way...
